The Patriots announced on Thursday the signing of veteran offensive lineman Mike Flynn. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. To make room on the 80-man roster, the Patriots released cornerback Ade Jimoh.
Flynn, 34, is a veteran of 10 NFL seasons, all with the Baltimore Ravens (1998-2007). The 6-foot-3-inch, 305-pound offensive lineman has played in 133 career games with 115 starts, including 15 starts at center for the Ravens last season. Flynn was originally signed by Baltimore as a rookie free agent from the University of Maine on April 25, 1997.
After spending portions of the 1997 season on the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad, he made his NFL debut with Baltimore in 1998, playing in three games that season. In 1999, Flynn played in 12 games, primarily on special teams.
In 2000, he broke into the starting lineup for Baltimore, starting every regular season game (14 at right guard and two at center) and all four playoff games (at right guard) as the Ravens won Super Bowl XXXV. In 2001, he began a three-year stretch where he started all but one game at center for Baltimore. During the 2003 season, Flynn started every game at center as the Ravens’ Jamal Lewis ran for 2,066 yards, the second highest single-season total in NFL history.
After starting five games in 2004, Flynn went on to start all but one game at center over a three-year span from 2005-07. He was released by the Ravens on Feb. 28, 2008. Flynn is a native of Springfield, Mass., and attended Cathedral High School in Springfield.
Ade Jimoh (pronounced ODD-ee gym-OH), 28, has played in 69 career NFL games with the Washington Redskins (2003-06) and Chicago Bears (2007). He was signed by the Patriots as a free agent on Aug. 13, 2008. The 6-foot-1-inch, 187-pound defensive back has recorded 28 career tackles (25 solo), five passes defensed and 68 special teams tackles.
