INDIANAPOLIS – New Tampa Bay coach Raheem Morris has plenty of love for New England — in fact, his staff is going to have a serious Bay State flavor. He hired former Boston College coach Jeff Jagodzinski to be his offensive coordinator, and ex-Patriots’ tight ends coach Pete Mangurian will be the Bucs’ new offensive line coach. Morris — a tremendously engaging personality who will provide plenty of material this year — spoke about both of them this afternoon.
On what drew him to Jagodzinski…
The success he had in the past at Boston College. Obviously, he’s been in this league, he knows this league. He’s been around the zone scheme run, he’s run the ball successfully, he’s coached tight ends, he’s coached the O-line. He has knowledge and a swagger about him that I like, that he can present to a room and a unit and they’ll take it in and do exactly what he says. Piece him together with Pete Mangurian and some of the other guys I have on the staff, like Greg Olson, Richard Mann, Tim Berbenich. I love the mixture. I love it.
On his relationship with Pete Mangurian…
Pete actually gave me my first job in coaching, at Cornell University. I went out there and he still owes me money because I worked for $5,000 for him. So I’m way overpaying him. Seriously, he’s a good coach and he taught me a lot of the ropes in this game. When I got my staff, that was one guy I had to have in any capacity.
