As expected, Detroit takes Matthew Stafford with the No. 1 pick. The Georgia product signed a tremendous deal last night/early this morning — for $41.7 million in guaranteed money — that makes him the highest paid player in the league. Quite an investment. But he is a quarterback who fills a colossal void. He won’t start immediately, but by the end of the season, he’ll be the No. 1 quarterback. (Think about Stafford and Calvin Johnson in a few years. Good times in Detroit.) Daunte Culpepper just shook his head in disbelief.
