ESPN: Patriots sign McGowan

The Patriots have reached a two-year agreement with former Bears safety Brandon McGowan, according to ESPN.

A 5-foot-11, 205-pound undrafted free agent out of Maine, the 25-year-old McGowan has spent his entire four-year career to this point in Chicago. His finest season came in 2007, when he played in a career-best 14 games (starting nine of them), coming away with 68 tackles and two interceptions.

He was hobbled by an ankle injury last year, which limited him to just two games.
