| Report: Taylor to re-sign with Dolphins | 05.13.09 at 1:13 pm ET |
According to a report in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Pro Bowler Jason Taylor will re-sign with the Dolphins Wednesday.
The Patriots had reportedly expressed an interested in signing Taylor, with New England owner Robert Kraft telling reporters the 34-year-old pass rusher was a “great player,” and adding that if Taylor wanted to join the Patriots, “I’m sure that can happen if he wants it.”
Taylor sounded intrigued at the idea of joining New England — he has a longstanding friendship with Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady, and New England coach Bill Belichick has expressed great admiration for Taylor’s skill over the last few years. And Taylor seemed flattered about the idea of joining the Patriots.
“I did hear that. I can’t lie,” Taylor told reporters who asked about Kraft’s remarks. “I have not talked to Robert Kraft. We’ll leave it at that. Those things will sort themselves out, and hopefully in the near future so I can get back to work.
“But it’s great to be wanted. It’s great to be wanted. Sure, especially an organization like them or the Dolphins.”
However, the lure of staying in South Florida now appears to have won Taylor over. After spending the first 11 years of his carer with Miami, he spent last season with the Washington Redskins after the Dolphins traded him for two draft picks. Taylor was cut loose by the Redskins in the offseason, and had publicly expressed a desire to be closer to his Florida home.
