| Highlights from Peter King Q&A with Dale and Holley | 05.27.09 at 12:05 pm ET |
Thanks to Greg Cameron, here are some highlights from the Peter King Q&A with Dale & Holley, which took place Wednesday morning. (For the complete interview, click here.)
•King thought that Brady looked “absolutely normal” on the field this week. He couldn’t have noticed a difference between the OTA and the past.
•As King talked to Brady for SI, he believed that Brady was “bursting at the seams, ready to talk.” He also talked about Brady’s reaction to all of the stories and stuff surrounding him. According to King, Brady has made “rules and boundaries” with regards to the media circus that follows his everyday life.
•King also said that Brady doesn’t care very much about what the public thinks of him.
•Can Brady still bring it? King was told by Brady that he plans on playing another ten years in the NFL. He likened Brady to another Super Bowl-winning QB in Phil Simms who once said “I’ll play until they rip the uniform off of me.” King believes such will be the case with Brady.
•Addressing the lack of an offensive coordinator in Foxboro, King knows that Bill Belichick is a big fan of Urban Meyer and what he’s done down in Gainesville with the Florida Gators. King “bets 100 bucks, that the Patriots will use or at least explore using something with the spread offense.” King also believes that the Patriots were high on former Florida playmaker, Percy Harvin before the draft.
•Talk then shifted to the Peyton Manning situation in Indianapolis. Manning is unsure about how things are going with the new assistants under the direction of new head coach Jim Caldwell. King believes that Manning has been lucky to have had the same offense, franchise wide receiver and offensive coordinator for the last 11 years. King believes that it is an interesting story to look out for, but he doesn’t buy that it’s going to be a big thing in Indy.
•Michael Vick’s name was then brought up. King believes that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will suspend Vick when he returns to the game. How long of a suspension Goodell will dole out to Vick is anyone’s guess, but King believes it will be in the neighborhood of four to eight games. 20 months in prison was good for Vick but 4-8 weeks to think about lying to many would be even more substantial, according to King.
•Could Michael Vick really be on the Patriots’ radar? King called this an “educated wild guess.” He believes that Belichick could use Vick in certain packages. He also believes that if Vick did come to Foxboro, the Patriots facilities would be a “fortress” from the almost certain media circus. King believes that the best place for Michael Vick is the New Orleans Saints. The Saints defense simply won’t be good enough, and the team has only one star player on offense in Drew Brees who has been great. King also said that Reggie Bush has been a disappointment.
•One final thought from King on Tom Brady: He has a feeling that Brady will tell his side of things. He doesn’t read too much into the media’s opinion of him. He doesn’t read King’s or anyone’s stuff, if he did he would’ve gone crazy if he did. He also doesn’t go home and watch the day-to-day coverage of himself. Doesn’t watch much SportsCenter either. King said that Brady will go home and watch either the Discovery Channel or the Golf Channel.
