| Sounds of the game: Players react to Seymour trade | 09.06.09 at 5:13 pm ET |
FOXBOROUGH — Kevin Faulk had seen this all before. It was just prior to the 2003 season and shock waves reverberated through the Patriots locker room when Lawyer Milloy was traded to the Buffalo Bills the week before the season opener against the Bills in Buffalo.
The resulting 31-0 loss to the the Bills set off alarm bells throughout the locker room. Of course, the Patriots rebounded to win 14 of their next 15 games and all three in the playoffs to capture Super Bowl XXXVIII.
Fast forward six seasons, and now it’s Richard Seymour who was shown the door on Sunday when he was dealt to the Oakland Raiders for a 2011 first-round draft pick.
Faulk and the rest of the Patriots reacted Sunday at Gillette Stadium.
Faulk said the team will get over the initial shock of the trade.
Laurence Maroney said he will still show up to play.
Maroney isn’t about to question the wisdom of Bill Belichick and Patriots management.
Jerod Mayo said Seymour was a space eater on the line.
Greg Lewis said he remembers Seymour from Super Bowl XXXIX when Lewis was with the Eagles.
Vince Wilfork said change happens all the time and this is another case of it.
Ty Warren said there’s no getting around the fact that there will be an impact felt.
Warren said Seymour had a sense something was going to happen.
