We are at Gillette

FOXBORO — I am in my seat (No. 309) in the press box at Gillette Stadium for today’s Patriots-Titans game. It’s another AFL throwback game, so they’ll be lots of talk about the Patriots and OILERS, but we’re just gonna call them the Titans this afternoon. (The scoreboard has “Welcome to Gillette Stadium for today’s game: Patriots vs. Oilers.” If they really wanted to make this a throwback game, they should have had us park in a dirt parking lot, have us in the media wear fedoras and try to recreate the ambiance of Foxboro Stadium. But that’s just me…) Anyway, it’s a nasty, wet and cold afternoon here in Foxboro, and it’s supposed to stay that way throughout the day.
•As part of the Patriots 50th anniversary, New England’s honorary captains today will be Pro Football Hall of Famers John Hannah, Mike Haynes and Andre Tippett.
•As expected, there’s not supposed to be a whole lot of national media in attendance for today’s game. There are scouts from Jacksonville, Miami and Tampa Bay in attendance, as well as media from NBCSports.com, The Sporting News and ESPN, among others.
•As you can see from the above photo, there’s no tarp covering things up. Shouldn’t be an issue because of the FieldTurf, but you never know. There are AFL logos in the end zone, and the Patriots’ AFL mural is along the wall that separates the field from the stands.
•We’ll have updates throughout the day here on the blog, as well as notes, updates, analysis and quotes throughout the day and after the game as well. If you Tweet, follow our man Trags, who will get you through the afternoon at @weeigameday.
