| Busy day in New England locker room | 10.22.09 at 2:11 pm ET |
FOXBORO — Just got out of a frantic New England locker room, where players were packing for their trip later Thursday to London. A handful of players spoke with the media, including defensive lineman, running back Laurence Maroney, linebacker Rob Ninkovich, linebacker Jerod Mayo and tight end Benjamin Watson. Colleague Mike Petraglia was in on the Maroney Q&A, and will have those highlights along shortly. In the meantime, here’s a quick sampling of some of the rest of what was said:
I know Bill said this is not a sightseeing tour, but are you curious at all about getting a look around?
Jarvis Green: Yeah, I’ve got my camera. I’m going to hopefully get on a double-decker and just do that. My wife is going to be over there also, so we are going to do that. But we’re still going over there for a game. We’ve got to concentrate. We’re going there to win.
On the state of his health, specifically his knee…
Jerod Mayo: I feel all right. All right. Getting better every day. Still doing treatment and rehab like that, but things are all right.
On the experience of playing at Wembley for the first time….
Rob Ninkovich (who was there with the Dolphins a few years ago): It was a good experience. As I said before, it was the first time that the NFL had been there, so I think there was a little bit more to it. More buildup, all that stuff. I’m sure it’ll be the same. The fans are going to be enjoying it. I think the different part is that the stadium is obviously bigger. You’re playing on a soccer field. Fans are trying to learn the game as they’re watching it, so there’s not really a home-field advantage., really. It’s just loud the whole time and people are cheering the whole time. You see, like, every color of the NFL in the stands, because every has their own favorite player jersey. It’s pretty cool.
On the logistics of playing in a new environment…
Benjamin Watson: We have had some ‘Don’t go to this place, don’t go to that place.’ It’s kind of like when you’re in college and you go to a bowl game in a new city and they have to have the security meeting and tell you where not to go and what places not to go to. But everybody here is smart. We know not to go to certain areas. More importantly, we know to stay focused because it’s not a vacation. It’s a game. It’s a game we need to win.
