Patriots rookies settling in

FOXBORO — Just got back from the Patriots locker room, and it was a good morning. A lot of players were available, including rookies Pat Chung, Darius Butler and Julian Edelman. I’ll be writing about this for a story that’ll be posted later this afternoon, but here are some of what they had to say about life as a rookie with the Patriots:
Pat Chung on how this rookie class continues to pull together as a family: I think, as a rookie class, we’re together as a family. Obviously, because if Julian is out there making plays, I’m running to him. [Darius Butler] is out there making plays, I’m running toward him. I can see that. We’re like a big family. Those rookie meetings that we have, we’re in there, we have to be in there and see how our team is and see how they react to things. See what kind of people we have. It just brings us together.
Chung on fighting through the rookie wall: You’ve got to run through the wall. That’s the mentality you have to have. That wall comes, I’m going to try and run through it, and keep this same ritual I’ve been keeping. Always working hard and taking care of my body. Trying to run through that wall.
Darius Butler on whether the game has started to slow down for him at all: Definitely. The more reps you get and the more teams you play and the more receivers you play against, you get a little more comfortable. Every rep helps. Every game counts. Every game helps.
Julian Edelman on the biggest surprise he’s faced nine games into his first NFL season: It’s really that far? I mean, it’s obviously a lot longer. I went to Kent State — we didn’t play any bowl games or anything. We had the four preseason games, and it’s emotionally and physically demanding. And, mentally demanding. You just have to keep on going and grind through it.
Edelman on playing alongside Wes Welker: It’s great to play with Wes Welker. Just watching him every day in practice, and you see him in the game, a lot of guys go to him, so it kind of opens you up, because he’s such a huge part of our offense. Just watching Wes in practice and we’re both healthy, and I get to see how he does it, which helps me a tremendous amount.
