| Brady: At times ‘I don’t think we fight very hard’ | 12.06.09 at 5:18 pm ET |
Battered and bruised, Tom Brady took the podium trying to explain how his team rolled to a 14-0 lead only to fall apart in the fourth quarter and lose 22-21 to the Dolphins.
“That probably tells the story. You’re not going to win too often when you win 21 points.” Brady said.
But perhaps most telling, Brady admitted his team right now has zero killer instinct, showing fight early in games but not consistently.
“At times we do and at other times, I don’t think we fight very hard. We have to find a way to close these games out,” Brady said.
There were big plays galore early, including 58-yard hook-ups to Randy Moss for a TD and another to Wes Welker in the second quarter. But that play to Welker ended up in one of the key red zone failure of the day that ended with a failed fourth and 1 run by Sammy Morris.
“Randy had a big catch to start the game. They had guys over there. You have to go to other guys.” Brady.
The other red zone turnover was when Brady lobbed a ball to Randy Moss, only to have it picked off by Vontae Davis in the end zone in the fourth quarter.
“You throw it up there and hope Randy comes down with it but the other guy did.” Brady said. ”We had some chances inside the five yard line, inside the 10-yard line and didn’t capitalize. We have to find a better way to play for 60 minutes.”
Brady acknowledged the frustration.
“We’re searching for answers, too,” Brady said. “You have this feeling when you lose, it an awful feeling. Coach always said you get what you deserve. We’ve had a lot of fourth down opportunities this year but we’re not making the plays when we need to.”
Brady went to the locker room after the TD to Moss, already coming into the game with a bruise on the ring finger of his throwing hand.
“There’s a lot of guys banged up,” Brady said, admitting he’s not 100 percent. “It’s a physcial game. I don’t think anyone is 100 percent.”
“I think we’ve played pretty inconsistent. Some good drives some bad drives. Trying to put our finger on it. It’s certainly frustrating.”
