Edelman: ‘Tom Brady told us not to quit’ 01.10.10 at 8:49 pm ET
By Mike Petraglia

FOXBORO  –  Julian Edelman will have mixed emotions when he looks back on his first NFL playoff game.

He caught the only two scores of the day for the Patriots from Tom Brady, a pair of touchdown passes as he filled in for the injured Wes Welker as the team’s slot receiver.

But he’ll also remember how the Patriots fell behind 24-0 after one quarter and never recovered in a 33-14 loss to the Ravens, drawing the curtains on their 2009 season.

As the Patriots headed to the locker room, Edelman, who caught six balls for 44 yards, said the message from Brady was clear through the game – don’t quit.

Afterward Edelman spoke about his day, falling behind 24-0 and what it was like to have Wes Welker on the field as honorary captain.

What can you say. You get kicked in the groin it takes a while to get your groove back. We won 3 quarters but just could not make up for the first 15 minutes. .. Oh well we are all Sox fans so we are used to “wait till next year “

  • Greg

    Time for rebuilding:
    WE NEED

    1. WR (solid #3)
    2. OL
    3. RB (one who can play as good as he speaks)
    4. Pass rush / DE (Mayo was solid but always double teamed)Kind of makes you wonder what we would have done if Seau was still here. Mayo would have had a huge year, it takes 3 guys to stop Seau.

Yesterday was the hearlds trumpet announcing the end of the Patriots era in the NFL. Is it Belichick, what happened to the man many thought was one of the best coachs in the NFL today, and that is a restrained understatement.

I think not, it was the downside of professional sports showing through. Eh what, You say. Yup, the professionals who play first for the money and then the glory (that is what makes them professionals) had the money and realised they were not good enough to win it all,no glory, less effort, so the level of play sought its level.

This may not have been a conscious thought any players minds, but it produced an effort that was less than 100%. That to is an understatment.

  • C handler

To Joe: We are NOT all Sox fans – GO YANKEES!

Patriots are rebuilding – give them 2 years.

  • Jake

to joe whered u get that line from the real postgame show, the pats got smoked for 4 quarters the ravens were better all day. And the foxboro brain trust has alot of work this offseason b/c this year sucked worse than last year despite the playoffs

  • Sheryl

Chandler – Go back to New Jersey & root for your own team. Or are you just a Frontrunner?

  • Erik

Greg I hope you mean Seymoure and not Seau. Seau was here and all it did was add to the age and lack of speed in the linebackers

  • Jeff

Which team has the most wins in the last 3 years?

That would be the NE Patriots. So much for being “the end of an era.”

    18-1
    11-5
    10-7

    39 Wins

  • rick

Jeff you bone head, most wins doesn’t get a playoff win or even a Super Bowl win has proved in 2007. Wins mean nothing without the end game ask Shady Brady or Belicheat which they would rather have a Super Bowl win or the most wins, the dynasty if ther ever was one is dead, has been dead for three years get over it and move on.

  • Bryan

Listen as a Ravens fan I loved the win but as a football fan, the Michigan crybaby that Brady is showed because he was thinking about the family. Good for him if I end up voting for the Hall of Fame I would yes to Brees, Rivers, and Peyton but not Tom nope one was were the Pats ranked higher than 7th in offense but in `07 the defense was terrible. And for those in Taunton who think the Ravens suck well look your cheapskate organization you couldn`t pay for Samuel, Milloy, Law, Branch, Woody, Vrabel, Seymour, but you keep Izzo, Maroney, a banged up Taylor and Brady giving him 10 million huh I wouldn`t give him a cent the pats should trade him for Cassell or maybe give Craig Krenzel a tryout because at least they got heart, don`t need calls there way and have leadership abilities he sucked in 1999, 2001, 2003, and 2004 he sucks now, and will suck when Belicheck gets fired and Pats regret getting rid of Bledsoe and Cassell.

  • Jeff

“Bryan” might be the most ignorant person to ever post on a message board. Reading your comments makes everyone a tad bit less intelligent. If you think that Phil Rivers deserves a hall of fame vote over Brady, you’re clearly high on crabcakes. In all seriuosness, I think you should consider a career as a football analyst. You really seem to be making a lot of sense. The Patriots are rebuilding. Even while rebuilding, they still clinched a 3 spot in the AFC. Cheapskate organization?? Please go into detail about the finances involved in all of those deals.

Your opinions are ignorant, irrelevant, and downright foolish. You’re either a 9 year old kid, or you’re a complete idiot. Please, for your own sake, and your own dignity, leave the football talk to actual intelligent human beings.

  • Ricky

Last year was a heart-breaker with the best and “healthy” team (Patriots)missing the playoffs with 10 wins. This year the Patriots were playing “hurt” and were allowing the linebackers (ala NFL championship game with the Giants) to put pressure on Brady when left with only a single back for protection. Still, versus the Ravens, it was close….think, the safeties tackle Rice on the first play of the game, Brady gets off the pass to his open reciver instead of the forced fumble, and the tight end catches the ball instead of allowing the interception….we have a very different game. It was evident, that the Patriots could run the ball against Baltimore, but after a 24-0 deficit, they were force to the pass. I still believe the better team lost….

    Ricky says:

    —–

That’s all well and good, Ricky, but none of those things actually happened. That’s like saying “well the rams were 1-15….but if they had won 10 more games and gotten into the playoffs, then won in the wild card round, won in the divisional round, and won the NFC Championship, they might have been super bowl champs!” Wishful thinking.

For a team to be the “better” team they have to execute, which the Patriots did not even come close to doing on Sunday.

    Hey Byan:
    1. Lay off the drugs
2.Get out of your parents basement once in awhile
    3.Your an A-Hole !!!

All I hear is a bunch of whining about something that you possibly can fix should you werent too busy in search of attention.
