It was announced Friday morning that Patriots receiver Randy Moss will not be going to this year’s Pro Bowl. The report, which came in conjunction with the fact that Cincinnati wide receiver Chad Ochocinco was named to the AFC squad, stated that Moss would not be going because of “injury.”
It’s not sure how much of that move is precautionary measure — it wouldn’t be the first time a player has backed out of the Pro Bowl because he did not want to run the risk of making some minor bumps or bruises worse in a meaningless game — and how much it might be related to a more substantial injury concern. Moss was listed on the injury report earlier in 2009 with a back problem, and confessed to the Boston Herald had bothered him.
Regardless, the fact that Moss and teammate Wes Welker will not be going to the Pro Bowl because of injury opened a spot for the irascible Ochocinco, who is happy about the decision.
“This is extremely great news,” Ochocinco told reporters. “I appreciate the recognition of the body of work I put in this season. But please let me share with my teammates. Cedric Benson — none of it would have happened without him. And Carson (Palmer) and my offensive line and everybody. I love you all.”
The Patriots have four players who are still scheduled to participate in the game on Jan. 31 in Miami: left guard Logan Mankins, nose tackle Vince Wilfork, quarterback Tom Brady and safety Brandon Meriweather.
