Brady out of the Pro Bowl

According to Pro Bowl rosters released by the NFL on Tuesday, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has been replaced by Houston’s Matt Schaub on the AFC squad due to “injury.”
No official word from the league as to what will keep him out of the NFL’s annual touch-football game, but Brady was hobbled for much of the season with reported rib and finger injuries, and the quarterback’s right shoulder has left him listed on the New England injury report for several seasons. Regardless, Brady started all 16 games in 2009, as well as the wild-card game against Baltimore while passing for 4,398 yards and 28 touchdowns with 13 interceptions.
It’s not a huge surprise that Brady won’t play — in his final press conference after the playoff loss to the Ravens, he was asked if he would play in the Pro Bowl. He flashed a smile and said, “We’ll have to see. We have our exit physicals tomorrow, so we’ll see what comes up.”
Brady is the third Patriots player to back out of this season’s Pro Bowl: Wide receiver Randy Moss vanished from the AFC roster last week in a similar fashion — also explained as an “injury” — while fellow wide receiver Wes Welker injured his left knee in the regular-season finale against the Texans and was placed on injured reserve.
As of this moment, the Patriots still have three players headed to the game, scheduled for Jan. 31 at Miami’s Sun Life Stadium: left guard Logan Mankins, safety Brandon Meriweather and nose tackle Vince Wilfork.
