Brady: No offseason surgery

Despite the injuries he suffered over the course of the 2009 season, there will be no offseason surgery for Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.
“A year ago at this time, there were all these concerns about whether I was going to play this year,” Brady told reporters at a charity event in Boston Monday afternoon. “It’s nice to be in an offseason where I really feel I can get started right away.”
In 2009, Brady reportedly suffered a rib injury, and he sported a sizable splint on his right ring finger through the late stages of the regular season. In addition, Brady continued to be listed on the injury report throughout the season with a right shoulder. All this was on top of the fact that he spent a sizable bulk of the season trying to get back to speed after sitting out virtually the entire 2008 season because of a knee injury he suffered in the opener.
But Monday, he referred to the injuries he incurred over the course of the season as “bumps and bruises,” and he said he is eager to get started with the business of offseason football.
“I’m feeling good,” he said. “I really am.”
The quarterback, who is entering the final year of his current deal, also discussed his contractual situation, and whether or not he’d like to get a new deal done before the start of the 2010 season.
“There are a lot of players that end up being in my situation,” he told reporters. “There is a lot of uncertainty with the league, and being a player rep now, I realize all the different issues that we’re facing. It’s a really unique time in the league, and as a team player, I don’t sit here saying, ‘What about me, What about me?’ I’m under contract and I’m going to go out there and play, and play my butt off.
“We’re all way overpaid,” he added. “I love playing. We’re all fortunate to play. We all have the greatest job in the world, and I have the greatest job in the world. I love being here. I love Boston. I love the city. I love the community.”
