The Doc Approves

Celtics head coach Doc Rivers certainly approves of the Patriots selection of linebacker Brandon Spikes with the 62nd overall pick — Spikes is dating Rivers’ daughter, Callie.
“The Patriots made a terrific pick today in Brandon Spikes,” Rivers said with a smile after the Celtics playoff win over the Heat Friday night in Miami. “You’ll remember that name.”
Rivers has spoken on WEEI’s “Dennis & Callahan” on a few occasions over the past couple months about Spikes, and he said he hoped the Patriots would draft him.
“I can tell you where I hope he plays and that’s here, I really do,” Rivers said. “I think it would be a great place for him. … I just want him to do well.”
The 22-year-old linebacker was the defensive captain on Florida and recorded 74 tackles, four sacks and four interceptions in his senior year.
“I think he would be a very good pick because he’s that type of player, smart, a guy that is a thinker on the field,” Rivers said. “So I wouldn’t be surprised to see [him picked by the Patriots].”
