Source: WR Owens works out for Patriots 06.03.10 at 12:09 pm ET
By

According to a league source, the Patriots had Rod Owens in for a workout Thursday morning. Owens, a 6-foot-1, 186-pound wide receiver, led Florida State with 61 catches for 729 yards and three touchdowns last season. A 23-year-old, he was released late last month by St. Louis.

Described by FSU coach Bobby Bowden as “probably [the] steadiest receiver” on the 2009 Seminole team, Owens started his collegiate career slowly, pulling down a combined 30 catches in his first three collegiate seasons with Florida State. His breakout came last year, a season that included a 9-catch, 199-yard performance in an October win over North Carolina. (Local college football fans might remember him for his effort against Boston College, when he had five catches for 62 yards in an October loss to the Eagles at The Heights.)

Headline tease warning…OH. Not THAT WR Owens.

  • CTPATSFAN1

Why DON’T we have enogh rookies with better stats than this

  • David

I got a hell of a shock looking at that headline and then my nerves stopped jangling when I read the rest of the piece. If stats don’t lie and the quote is correct, then he might be a great addition to the franchise.

  • Kurt

Too funny! I really thought the headline was referring to T.O.! :) I had always wondered how things would be with Moss on one side and T.O. on the other.

Let’s give this guy a try. It certainly can’t hurt to add more talent.

  • Wickie

Are we desperate or what? This Owens guy is ranked as the number 114 wide receiver in this year’s draft by NFL Scout.com Even a guy from Grand Valley State was ranked higher. What’s the matter, the #113 guy isn’t available? You know what though, the more the merrier. We blew our chances for a top WR when Trader Bill got moving. Maybe he’ll get lucky like he did with Edelman.

  • al perry

no clue who this guy is but good trick to get people to read this i think everyone thought this was T.O. for a min.

  • Ken

@Wickie I wonder how Tom Brady ranked at QB the year he came out? Not that it was as high as 114 but just goes to show you that scout.com rankings aren’t the be-all end-all of everything.

  • Brooklyn Matt

Screw all these JAGS!!! I’m sick of it. How’d Joey Galloway work out? Then they pull the same old fart move the next year with Tory Holt, huh? Gedthafugouttahere. Ooo, maybe Sam Aiken will improve… not. Get Brady some damn targets like Peyton has, or else.

  • Manhattan Skwal

Brooklyn Matt, you’re a moron. Why don’t you look at the targets Peyton has. Reggie Wayne=no Randy Moss; Austin Collie=4th rounder; Pierre Garcon=6th rounder. Go be a Cowboys fan, we all know you want to.

  • MikeS

He is worth looking at. If the Pats want to workout #199 of draft rankings who cares? This guy fits the profile of someone BB wants to look at. LOOK AT. How many different cars did you look at before you bought your last one? I looked at a bunch and tossed them out and ended up with the first one I looked at because it was what I wanted. But before I dropped a ton of money on it, I kicked the tires on a bunch of others ones. If this guy had been named NeverHeardOf, then he would not be getting this much air time. “Pats work out Owens” is a guaranteed read, and you know it worked. We are all suckers.

Anthor “cheap discount ” Patriots move. Old man running backs and other teams cast offs , hey still don’t want to pay for a top offensive or defensive coordinator . Brady needs a dependable target to throw to !!!!!

  • http://nfl.com pats fan

go pats lets go out and get T.O. him and Randy Moss will be dangerous then they would not be ridin the J-E-T-S no more they would try to come back to the champs. Pats are bounded for Super Bowl 45 and make more history.
