The Patriots have been out on the scouting trail at pro days for the last few weeks — they had four people at Boston College on Wednesday, including offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia — and Thursday, coach Bill Belichick and Director of Pro Personnel Jason Licht were both in attendance at pro day for the University of South Florida.

The South Florida program has really come on as of late, and there were apparently two major prospects there that have drawn the attention of the Patriots. According to multiple sources, New England has already expressed interest in defensive tackle Terrell McClain, a 6-foot-2, 297-pounder who was first-team All-Big East as a senior. (For more on McClain, check out our story on him here.)

In addition, according to those who were in attendance Thursday, Belichick — after a lengthy conversation with USF coach Skip Holtz — also put in serious work with the USF wide receiving corps, a group that includes Dontavia Bogan. One source indicated that Belichick was “all over Bogan,” and said that Belichick and Licht were interviewing him after the workout. Bogan is a 6-foot, 187-pounder who had 107 receptions for 1,534 yards and 12 touchdowns in his college career, including 47 catches for 685 yards and six touchdowns as a senior.

  • Xander Bogaerts

The guy who everyone said never quit on a play turned out to be the biggest quitter of all. He will play next season when he has control of where he will play. One of the most selfish athletes of modern Boston sports.

glad i wasn’t the only one who was wondering about that, Ljmel had a better line

Tim Thomas is a dink. Everything he did in the 2011 Playoff’s is lost on me since all his political BS. Just shut up and play hockey.

  • ziggy61

i cant figure this guy out & i’m not alone. where & what is the problem? for someone who came into the league at a late age and now plays hard to get @ his age? what is it we do not know?
come on tim, the end of the world has past. come out from your hole!

He’s earned the right to do whatever he wants, including temporary retirement..He was burnt out…We wouldn’t have the cup without him..

Too bad this saga continues. Thomas is a great story and he is a solid player. He helped the Bruins during both incarnations here. Thomas’s best move is to see if the team can trade him so he can play this year…based on goalies who have done it in the past, it is hard to come back after missing a season. Could he do it – yes. Would he be the same player as last year – less than likely.

Quit? He took a year off. He didn’t ask for more money, or try to get traded. He just did something for his family after years of being away.

Great to here Chara comment on that. Based on all the info that was given about Hamilton – and the updates – he does seem to be the real deal. He definitely has the size and the skill to be a solid defenseman for years to come. It will be interesting to see how the team plans to use him this year. Under non-lockout circumstances, I wonder if he would start in Providence and work his way up.

I’m 53 yo, and in my lifetime as a Bruins fan, I like that Bruins have always, but for a few gaps, had an iconic DEF in their lineup for darn near my entire rooting lifetime, from Orr…to Park…to Bourque…to Chara…and perhaps, to Dougie Hamilton.  Milt Schmidt, and other old-timers may add “Eddie Shore”, as well.

Amazing, really…it reminds me, until recently, of the Red Sox, and their run of LFers…Teddy, to Yaz, to Rice, to Manny, but for a few gaps in there, between a couple of them, and then post Manny.
