NFL set to resume football operations

Football has returned, at least for now. The NFL issued a memo on Thursday that said teams can open their doors to their players for voluntary workouts, meetings with coaches and the distribution of playbooks as early as Friday morning. For now, all player moves are on hold, but the league promised that it would issue detailed procedures for free agency, trades and other roster moves soon.

James Quinn, the class counsel for the players in their antitrust suit against the NFL, argued that waiting for an appeal is not grounds for keeping league operations shut down.

“Unless and until such a (stay) request is granted, however, we believe the 2011 league Year now has to begin,” Quinn said in a memo to players and agents. “The clubs must open their facilities to allow players to work out, meet with coaches and otherwise perform their jobs; and the NFL and the clubs cannot collectively continue to refuse to deal with players.”

The memo brings some clarity to an uncertain situation — despite the fact that the lockout was lifted earlier in the week, the clubs were unsure whether or not they could allow players into the facilities for workouts, as owners were in the process of appealing the decision. The league still plans to appeal the decision — the request for a temporary stay is still pending — but for now, there appears to be a sense that a return to normalcy will come sooner rather than later.

The truth of the matter is that the fans just want football. Some side with the owners most with the players but overall the fans don’t care except for they don’t want to season interrupted. Each side has issues near and dear but it seems to me that egos have controlled the situation and the fans are the ones that stand to lose. It’s hard to side with someone who makes the list for the wealthiest Americans or someone who makes tens of millions of dollars for playing ball. But the average NFL player does not play that long and does not make that much money. Many suffer with disabling injuries that only show up later on in life from a long history of football. Hopefully those seeking date entered NFL will not be on by this Disagreement.

Greg, you say “Some side with the owners most with the players…” Where do you get your data? From what I see and hear around here, I would say that most people side with the owners. But I do agree that the fans are the biggest losers in this whole thing.

I agree! If the players want to own a team/organization they have the right to try to make that happen! Other wise shut up and take your grossly over paid checks and sit the hell down! I dont know anyone taking the side of the players, both the owners and players are out of there collective bargaining minds!!!!

Greg you are out of your flipping mind. The players are out of their mind as well, getting paid millions of dollars to play a sport they are suppose to love. The owners need to stick to their decision and let the greedy bastards go bankrupt. I would play the game for 200,000 a year and carry my own insurance.

Steve, Do you think any rational insurer would cover you if you played NFL football? If they would, it would be very expensive without a say, 200K DEDUCTIBLE. Get real.

My developer is trying to convince me to move to .net from PHP. I have always disliked the idea because of the expenses. But he’s tryiong none the less. I’ve been using Movable-type on a variety of websites for about a year and am anxious about switching to another platform. I have heard very good things about blogengine.net. Is there a way I can import all my wordpress posts into it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
