Players vote Tom Brady best player in NFL

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was ranked No. 1 on the NFL Network’s countdown of the top 100 players of 2011. Brady finished ahead of Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, who finished second. Adrian Peterson, Ray Lewis and Ed Reed rounded out the top five.

Brady was named MVP of the league for the second time in his career last season, leading the NFL with 36 touchdowns, a 111.0 rating and throwing only four interceptions. He holds the record for passing touchdowns in a season with 50, which he accomplished in the Patriots’ undefeated regular season in 2007.

Though the players chose Brady over Manning, the Colts quarterback finished first among fan voting, while Brady finished third behind Manning and Packers QB Aaron Rogers. In reacting to the final list, Brady  said, “to me, [Manning]‘s the greatest of all time” in speaking with the NFL Network.

Brady was one of five Patriots players on the list, with three of his teammates finishing in the top 50. Defensive tackle Vince Wilfork was ranked No. 35, while guard Logan Mankins came in at No. 39. Wide receiver Wes Welker ranked 50th, while linebacker Jerod Mayo was chosen as the 62nd best player.

The list was chosen by the NFL players themselves, and the list was rolled out in a 10-part series. The rest of the top 10 consisted of Troy Polamalu, Andre Johnson, Darrelle Revis, Drew Brees and Julius Peppers, who finished No. 6-10.

    Manning is a great QB, but he had a bad slump last season. His QB rating was the lowest its been since 2002-2003, and he threw more interceptions this last season than he has since 2002-2003. I would definitely rate him highly, but i wouldn’t put him before Brady or Rodgers. Aaron Rodgers had a huge season, but Brady threw for 36 touchdowns and only 4 interceptions, that’s 9 touchdowns for every 1 interception, which is insane. Although Aaron Rodgers led his team to the SB, i would put Brady in the top spot, with Aaron Rodgers in 2nd and Manning somewhere after that. Btw, i’m a Cowboy fan.

    Fans will always put Peyton ahead of Brady because most fans are followers and just repeat whatever they hear on ESPN. The media has been pumping Peyton for 11+ years now. He wins MVPs when he shouldn’t. He’s more hype than substance and fans eat it up. Brady was voted 1st by 90% of the media and now by his peers. Only the ignorant fans have Peyton and Rodgers ahead of him. Barrian you fit the bill for “The Fan”.

    Brady has earned everything he’s got. His two MVPs were without question or debate with one being the only unanimous MVP ever. His SuperBowl MVPs were also earned and justified. As for Peyton, one of his MVPs he shared with Steve McNair as voters were split. His last two have been questioned and argued as undeserving by various writers and media, the latest being Rod Woodson and Jamie Dukes. As for his SuperBowl MVP, he was the lowest rated(81.8) SuperBowl MVP of all-time meanwhile his two RBs put themselves into the SuperBowl record books that day. How’s that for a win at the popularity poll? Want some facts on his SuperBowl run ? You wouldn’t believe it. The media pushes those facts under the rug. Like I said, he’s more hype than substance.

    As long as Brady can sit back there and have zero pressure get near him and he can pick apart defenses, he’s not only the greatest player in the NFL, but in the whole universe too. Ignorance is not realizing the role that the system plays in Brady’s success and dismissing Peyton’s accomplishments in the same breath. They are both great, but what they are to their team’s is very different.

    Tom Brady is a good QB, no question, but he is not the number 1. If the NE Pats lost Bill Belichick Tom Brady would not be as good as he is portrayed. Peyton Manning single handily took his team to the Superbowel after Heach Coach Tony Dungy left. Tom Brady has a genius coach who teaches his players fundamental football and he picks and selects athletes who have the heart and desire to win. They say 3% of NCAA players are drafted to the NFL, which leaves 97% of NCAA players that are overlooked and not picked. How many times have you seen the Pats draft players that you’ve heard of? In most cases Belichick picks players that dream of playing in the NFL and are humbled to be considered and given a chance. The Pats win games by fundamental football which is what separates the Pats from the rest of the NFL teams. Tom Brady has the image that he as the signature poster boy of the NFL because he’s a good-looking guy with more girl fans than any other player. I’ll bet out of all the Tom Bray jerseys sold, more are worn by females. Brady also is a QB which most football fans would admit is the most important position on the team. Tom Brady has won 3 Superbowls by a field goal kicker, 1 tuck rule, McNabb interception and great coach; doesn’t sound like Brady to me. He has the most passing TD’s because they were trying to give him that record and Randy Moss has never played for a great coach like Belichick before. In the last regular season game against the giants the Pats needed to score 5 passing TD’s in order to beat Manning’s record of 49, they made sure all TD’s scored were in the air. It’s impressive to see Tom Brady with only 4 interceptions but he’s had an outstanding offensive line, and he only throws little 5-10 yard dump passes. If you think I’m making this stuff up, then look at Matt Cassel. Matt Cassel never played much in college yet he comes to the NE as a rookie and he has a better season than Brady did his first year with the Pats. The only reason Cassel didn’t take NE to the playoffs is because is great 11-5 season wasn’t strong enough because the other teams in the AFC had better records. Bottom line if Brady didn’t have Belichick, he wouldn’t be that good.

    Ryan, here’s some facts on Peyton’s SuperBowl run. Fact #1: He’s one of ONLY 2 QBs inhistory to have 2 consecutive playoff games with just 1 TD and 5 INTs and still advance to win the SuperBowl(the other being Bradshaw). Talk about relying on your defense. Fact #2: He’s the ONLY QB in history to throw more than twice as many INTs(7) than TDs(3) in the playoffs and still win the SuperBowl. Fact #3: He ended his SuperBowl run with the LOWEST rating(70.4) of any SuperBowl winning QB in history. Yes. lower than Dilfer and Johnson. Fact #4: He is the ONLY SuperBowl winning QB to win a playoff game during his run without scoring an offensive TD, all field goals(Ravens game). Talk about relying on your kicker. Fact #5: He had the lowest rating in his SuperBowl than ANY SuperBowl MVP in history(81.8). Another win at the popularity polls. Maenwhile his RBs put themselves in the SuperBowl record books. Quite impressive run from the so called “greatest”. LOL! BTW, Cassel didn’t have Belichick last year and took the Chiefs to the playoffs and won 10 games. Just maybe Cassel is a decent QB.

    As far as Peyton in the playoffs here’s something else to ponder. In Peyton’s 10 playoff losses he’s scored more than 18 points just ONE time. He averages 14 ppg in those losses. He averages 26 ppg in the regular season. Do you know what your chances are of winning scoring 18 points in the playoffs? 12%. In the 400+ playoff games in the SuperBowl Era teams have only won 12% of the time scoring 18 points or less. That sounds like an offensive problem to me. Maybe you should do some research instead of quoting ESPN.

    Also Brady is one of only 2 QBs in history to win a SuperBowl when the defense gives up 29+ points. Not quite the kicker winning that one just because he scored the final 3. He wouldn’t have needed the final 3 either if he didn’t miss one previous. He is also one of a handful of QBs the have a walf off winng drive to win a SuperBowl. Peyton is one of a handful of QBs to throw a pick six in the SuperBowl. Every one of those guys lost.

    Also Ryan, In 2007 Brady had more passes of 20+ yards and 40+ yards than Peyton. In 2009 he had more passes of 40+ yards than Peyton. And in 2010 he had more passes of both 20+ and 40+ yards. So much for you theory of his 5 yard dump passes. Again maybe you should do some research.
