CEO of company that took a shot at Wes Welker issues half-hearted apology 02.08.12 at 12:36 pm ET
By Christopher Price

The company that dumped 900 pounds of Butterfingers in Copley Square as a shot at Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker has issued an apology. In an open letter on the Pawngo website from CEO and Founder Todd Hills writes: “In delivering a pile of Butterfinger bars to Copley Square in Boston, and a sign referencing Wes Welker, we were making a lighthearted gesture following Sunday’s hard fought game. We thought that Boston fans would get a laugh out of it.  But,  for many great Boston sports fans, it was taken offensively.  Please accept my most sincere apologies.”

So, if I have a truckload of cow manure dropped at Pawngo, Todd Hills will take it as a light-hearted gesture. He should be familiar with the smell, give the place where his head seems to be.

Chowderheads can be so sensitive. Who knew?

Nice marketing, if Massachusetts media outlets cared, they’d stop covering this RIGHT NOW.

IT’S A SINFUL SHAME HOW QUICKLY WE DISCARD, GREATNESS WITH ONE MISTAKE. WITHOUT WES, WE’RE NOT EVEN IN THE SUPER BOWL, SO DEFINITELY NOT A LIGHT HEARTED GESTURE. RATHER RUDE AND INCONSIDERATE.  LUV YA WES WELKER

What’s a half-hearted apology?  What does it take to get a full-hearted?  You’re the journalist who brought it up.  Journalists like you turned a verbal assault on a player wife into a sports story.

  • Piglet5235

At least they can count all of New England out of any chance of a potential customer base. We love Wes. Lighthearted? I think not.

I can tell you where Pawngo can stick their “lighthearted”  Butterfingers–let’s ask them afterwards how lighthearted it feels to them. You lost a lot more than New England with that stupid stunt.

I believe EVERY Patriot fan should boycott PAWNGO AND ALL AFFILIATES…. THAT INCLUDES DAYLIGHT PARTNERS, GROUPON, ACCESS VENTURE PARTNERS AND LIGHTBANK.
Your stunt was mean and NO ONE should want to do business with you.  How about your resignation Todd Hills???

For a player who has done so much for the Pats and his teammates this company should is a disgrace to do something like this.  I would never ever buy another Butterfinger bar.

  • Daisy Earnshaw

what does butterfingers have to do with this? blame pawngo

  • mikepatriot

Do i want wes Welker back for a couple of seasons, absolutel;y. Do i think wes welker f’d up in the game, positively. That was a catch HE knew he should have maintained posession of and the play was the last BEST opportunity to close the deal imo. The candy bars thing definitely rubbing salt in the wounds, not that it will ever go down well, but to pull a prank like that this close to the actual event, “tasteless.”

Branch dropped a ball. Hernandez dropped a ball. Fans of the Pats should also keep the mindset of the Pats: they win as a team, they lose as a team. There were many plays that should have been completed. It wasn’t just one.

As for Pawngo…tasteless, deliberate, unnecessary and rude. And shame on them for giving Butterfingers a bad name.

  • Cobrajml

Only person who should be upset about this is wes welker. I love the pats and everyplayer on the team, but 900 pounds of butterfingers doesn’t bother me.. now if wes welker asks me to boycot them then I will.. but who cares it doesn’t change anything he is still one of the best!

There are many a-holes in the world. CEO’s have, in the past few years, have proven to be in the group. This guy, for being so fundamentally petty, could lead the group. Is he a Jersey Shore person?

  • Tim Allen

Hilarious prank! People need to chill out.  Your team just lost the superbowl to the same team twice, you gotta expect a little bit of fun being poked at the Pats.
