A closer look at the inactives for the Patriots 09.09.12 at 11:49 am ET
By

The following players are inactive for Sunday’s game against the Titans: Cornerback Alfonzo Dennard; running back Shane Vereen; offensive lineman Nick McDonald; tight end Daniel Fells, defensive ends Justin Francis and Jake Bequette; defensive tackle Marcus Forston.

Vereen and McDonald were hobbled over the course of the week, and are no surprises. Fells also had a shin problem that he’s dealt with over the last week. Dennard spent a lot of the summer on the shelf because of a hamstring problem, and while he did return late in the preseason, he’s still likely behind a little bit. Meanwhile, youngsters Bequette, Francis and Forston are personnel decisions.

It’s probably more interesting to see who is not listed, a group that includes new tight end Michael Hoomanawanui, wide receive Greg Salas and running back/fullback Lex Hilliard.

I think that “true” Celtics fans would understand if they went on an extended losing streak in order to qualify for the draft lottery and the possibility of attaining a better player.  I am confident that Danny will be trying to acquire another first round draft pick and other roster needs via a trade to a contender interested in improving their chances in the playoffs with some of our current players.

I don’t think there is a lot that can be done.  You can make trades.  But, you are usually trading contracts.  If you trade Pierce then you are going to get a bad contract back + usually a stiff and a draft pick. The College draft doesn’t appear to have any game-changers yet.  Rondo and Sully could have been trade chips, but they are not able to be traded or were the depth that would have allowed the Celtics to make a trade is now gone.  Maybe Danny has a trick up his sleeve.  However, just have to ride it out, play Fab and hope for the best.  It is too bad.  I was enjoying watching Sully play!

We can afford to loose Sullinger since we have Bass and Wilcox.  Start playing Fab.  We are a deep team and I think we will be just fine.

Great company line Danny. BLOW IT UP!!! It’s over. It’s okay that it’s over, but you are risking the future of this franchise by not getting picks and/or cap relief. Following the Auerbach tradition of holding on for too long to old guys. If this team makes the playoffs, they’ll get killed in the 1st round. I am pretty frustrated by his attitude.

  • Bruinman86

We would, but unfortunately the draft is really weak this year.

Listen you mini felger, don’t be rediculous. You can’t avoid the fact that the C’s were done the second Rondo went down. It’s all over. There is no point in lying to ourselves.

I bleed green and losing these 2 maybe the chance to think of the future. Maybe see how we are doing towards the trade deadline.

  • Old Coach

We are still a good team, and we do need another big soon, but there are some servicable bigs available.  If doc will run some offense that features ball and player movement with double options to pass or drive and kick , we will be as good as anyone.  If we get another big soon.

Sullinger having the surgery may just be a blessing in disguise. Word is,Sullinger was constantly in the trainers room getting treatment for his back and had to wear a brace on the road. If the doctors were successful at stabilizing that area and Sullinger is able to move more freely and with a lot less discomfort he could actually comeback better and stronger next season.

This does provide Fab Melo with an opportunity and from all accounts the Celts loved Melo’s attitude and work ethic when he was in the D-league.The saying goes “you can’t coach height”.He’ll make rookie mistakes no doubt, but he’s still a 7 footer who can rebound and block shots.
