Seems like the Sox have some options in the minors. May be time to get rid of some of the non-producing major league dead weight and give the youngsters a shot. Can’t go any lower than last place or play any worse than they are now. Also seems like at least Jackie Bradley and Barnes from Salem are not being challenged enough and should be moved up a level.

The Sox should avoid the temptation to trade these prospects for veteran help.  It looks like even the trades for Victor Martinez and Adrian Gonzalez were mistakes.  The Sox would be no worse off now, and possibly better off for the future, with Masterson, Rizzo, and Hagadone, whom they gave up (among others) in those trades.

I don’t think it is fair to call the Martinez trade a mistake.  He played great for 1 1/2 seasons, then he left and we got two draft picks, which turned into Barnes and Owens.  Hagadone looks like a solid but unspectacular 26 year old reliever who is just now establishing himself in the majors.  Bryan Price is a 25 year old still in AA (not sure why that is).  Masterson is obviously the one that it hurts to lose, but I can’t really blame the team for being surprised by his success.  I didn’t expect him to be this effective as a starter, considering his issues with lefties and that he throws only two pitches.  Obviously I was wrong, but I think the team is satisfied with what Martinez gave them and with what Barnes and Owens look like they can become.

Remind me again why Gonzalez was a mistake?  I thought Boston “fans” were more informed than this….

bard will run when hes a free agent, explain why to me he isn’t our closer again. Can’t mgmt play there guys where they want to. Bard gasses out every game and is too mental and too much of a thinker to start. He’s best throwing 98 mph fastballs late. Who gives a *$#@ what he wants.
