Aqib Talib: ‘I’ve never been a part of an organization’ like Patriots 11.20.12 at 10:32 am ET

FOXBORO — It’s only been one game and a few weeks, but already Aqib Talib can feel the difference.

The cornerback, acquired from Tampa Bay in a deal on Nov. 1, said before practice on Tuesday that playing for the Patriots is just a different ballgame.

“It’s a different team,” Talib said. “You just feel it walking around here — the atmosphere. A winning organization. You can feel it in the air. I’ve never been a part of an organization like that. It’s good to feel it in the air, the confidence that’s in this building.”

The 26-year-old Talib made a big splash in his Patriots debut on Sunday against the Colts, where he returned an Andrew Luck interception 59 yards for a touchdown, his first pick with New England. While he was happy to get his first game with the Patriots behind him, the cornerback was critical of his performance.

“I watched it a couple of times — it could be a lot better,” Talib said. “It’s corrections. You always want to play good. After the game you correct it and then move on to the next game. Right now, we’re just moving on to the Jets.

“I’m just getting ready for the Jets, man. Getting ready for the game. As times goes along, you get involved in the rivalry, but right now, I’m just preparing for the game.”

One of the things that will help Talib is increased reps alongside the rest of the defensive backs.

“It definitely helps,” he said. “The more you play, the more you mesh as a secondary. The more time you get together, it definitely helps.”

Talib believes the quick turnaround this week will work his his advantage.

“I think it’ll be good. It’s a quick turnaround. Have to get up here early and get your body right,” he said. “Just getting on that tape, man. Getting a good feel for your opponent. Just about three or four days short or whatever. Just that’s the biggest challenge right there.

“We could be playing in front of nobody. When another team lines up across from you, you’ll be over that soreness.”

Talib will make this trade look like a steal.  His on-field resume from college and the Buccaneers is impressive.  His off-field stuff appears to be maturity related.  Here’s hoping he likes winning and signs a new deal.  We really need him to stay.

Huge pick ip the way alfonzo dennard is playing then putting devin mccourty at saftey when chung is back the defence will be solid!

  • Belichick&Brady

It’ll be improved but in no way will it be solid. It’ll cut down on the defensive breakdowns and wide open recievers but there’s still lots to improve on. If Talib plays to his potential and Dennard continues to improve, then chung would be the only downside. The guy is horrible against the pass and tries to much to make big hits instead of wrapping up the reciever. The pats need to draft Matt Elam, he was also inconsistent against the pass but is much improved this year. The guy has a nonstop motor and nose for the ball. If he’s gone Tony Jefferson or Kenny Vaccaro need to be considered

I happy for Talib. Me being a Buc fan, I look forward to watching Patriot games now that he is there.

Ur bugging Chung is far from a downside once he gets healthy the defense will be solid mccourty has the range to chase down anything deep and Chung has the awareness and play recognition to help the corners

not for nothing but… “Aqib Talib “celebrations” his touchdown Sunday against the Colts. (AP)”

As delicately as I can say this, if you think Patrick Chung is a good football player, you are probably a hockey fan with a little too much free time.  There’s a reason he’s being deactivated even though he’s healthy.  He has all the instincts of Brandon Meriweather, and for people like Gresh and Zo that don’t understand the game they supposedly grew up playing, that’s not a good thing!

Connie Chung is awful. I wouldn’t count on that guy if my life depended on it

Robert: Talib  has  talent ,skills, ability and the desire to be an outstanding defensive player for New England.Of course he needs reps and conditioning after being off for four weeks, but I am convinced after watching this guy  in college, and with Tampa Bay,he can play with the best of the CB in the NFL.
Talib is in a great place where he can grow and be the impact player he is capable of.When you hang out with people that are not helping you grow you can  miss the mark.Talib is a hitter and will contribute to the secondary success.I look forward to this guy on his way up and back.My advice to you young man you are surrounded by an awesome coach Bill Belicheck when things are not right go in and talk to him him.   God Bless this Season

I live in St. Pete. Trust me, I LOVE rubbing this in the faces of the local Schmuckaneer fans :)

Talib will do wel. He’s got natural physical ability – showed it in his runback – followed blocks well.  He’s a good tackler.  The coverage is more mental than physical – he’ll do better next few weeks. Best thing – he frees up McCourtney to play safety and plugs the hole on the corner where McCourtney was not doing well.
    TPM.

I hope he becomes our next Asante Samuel!

We might have a game changer here that will take us to the superbowl. Well done Aqib.

This is a match made in heaven. Talib will rub off on the Pat’s secondary… (and then more). And the Pats will rub off on Talib. Dennard is the same skill level player, so… BAM!!>> Fixed! I’m no Chung fan. I think McCourty, Wilson and Gregory are the way to go, and they’ll be fine. Damned fine. I’d rather see Ebner and Cole getting reps than Chung or Arrington. They can go away anytime now. The rest of the D is fabulous when they’re ‘up’. Talib was that spark that can keep them all fired up.
