Dan Fouts: Tom Brady gets special treatment from refs 01.15.13 at 12:07 am ET
By
Dan Fouts (AP)

Dan Fouts (AP)

Speaking on an episode of “NFL Monday QB” on CBS Sports Network, former Chargers quarterback Dan Fouts took a veiled shot at Tom Brady, hinting the Patriots quarterback gets special treatment from officials.

“Tom Brady has to be protected to be effective,” said Fouts, who has become an NFL analyst for CBS Sports. “He’s protected better than anybody — not only by his offensive line, but sometimes, by those guys in the striped shirts.”

Brady and the Patriots are preparing to face the Ravens in the AFC championship game, set for Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at Gillette Stadium. On the same show, former NFL quarterback Steve Beuerlein also chimed in on Brady and what Baltimore has to do slow him down.

“If you’re the Baltimore Ravens, you have to get Tom Brady’s uniform dirty,” he said. “If you don’t get him on the ground, if you don’t get him beat up and thinking about the pass rush, moving around the pocket and get him off his spot, you do not have a chance. If he has a clean uniform at the end of the game, that is not a good sign for [the Ravens].”

  • Truth

Fouts should be more concerned about his god awful announcing.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_D5C2FX3FRN3WC4E4MS4BUHUAR4 Sean

As if. EVERY questionable call in the AFC Divisional game went for the Texans.

  • Johnny SpiesGays

Sure Fouts. Peyton never caught a break when the president of his team was on the rules committee. Spoken like a QB that’s never won anything

  • Jcanti71

    Give an example you fraud.

  • Gset1
  • Tp74

All marsha has to do is pound the ground and look at the officials with that look of deperation and out comes the flag.

  • Paying Attention

Brady was the beneficiary of 2 (two) roughing the passer calls this season. He attempted 637 passes. By way of comparison, Matt Schaub drew 4 RTP calls.

So yeah, plenty of evidence that the officials “protect” Brady…

  • Pats

I was going to say the SAME thing as you…..What in the hell is this guy smoking? I have seen numerous times this season that Brady gets hit late and the refs don’t throw a flag….He must have taken one too many shots to the dome when he played.

  • Pats

“If you don’t get him on the ground, if you don’t get him beat up and thinking about the pass rush, moving around the pocket and get him off his spot, you do not have a chance…….Wow this guy has some groundbreaking info the on how to beat the Patriots, I have never heard ANYONE give this analysis before. =/

  • Afam

    Who the Eff is Fouts.

  • RobDX

Thank god we mostly hear Harlan on the radio (great announcing) and limited Fouts in color this Sunday, because Fouts in on the broadcast on EEI…..gross.

  • Afam

I see that he a Hall of Fame Qb who never made it to the super bowl in fifteen seasons. How the hell do you play for 15 seasons and do not make it to the super bowl at least one. Sounds to me like someone is seriously hating on Brady. If you say that Brady is protected, so are Rodgers, Manning, Etc

  • Scotsman

And in other news, water is wet.  NO KIDDING Brady gets favorable treatment.  He’s the Lebron James of the NFL.  Can’t win a title without the refs help and EVERY call he cries for he gets.

  • Scotsmanisaloser

Tell you what Scotsman….since you know it all…please list EVERY Flag Brady has gotten this season and then maybe we will listen to you.

  • Hatredlooksuglyonyou

Must be on the Ravens Payroll

  • Teamrondo

    Who?

  • Dana Shetterly

He really gets those intentional grounding calls don’t he?

    That was sarcasm.

  • Bystander

     Turd.

  • Bystander

Sound analysis…but numbingly obvious and universal.  It is the goal of EVERY defensive team to get the QB worried and out the rush.   And concerning the shot at Brady…perhaps you could illustrate some such instances rather than make some whining claim that Brady is only successful because the refs are fans of his.  For crying out loud, even the fans posting on this site have offered some objective facts that discredit your claims.

    Moron.

  • Boston_Sports

Wow, these guys must have missed the Patriots Texans game. Brady and the home team didn’t get any special treatment at all. Maybe they were practicing how to improve their own skills on sport shows.

  • Steve in Coventry

says one of the worst announcers in the history of all announcers.

  • Gwangi466

Spoken like a true LOSER!!!  With the exception of Troy Aikman on Fox, why do all the losers end up in announcing gigs on TV and Radio? Just remember one thing Fouts: If it were not for Brady, the Manning brothers, Rogers, et al, football would not be as popular and Losers like you would not have a job annoucing games!!!!

  • Rod Rust

Belichick probably paid founts to say this so Brady gets fired up…Tom hasn’t been great in the afc championship game or Super Bowl in a while.

  • Sicko

When was the last time Brady got a roughing the passer call go his way? It seems to me Brady was hit at least 5 or 6 times this past Sunday without a flag(and rightfully so). The refs are commanded to protect ALL QBs not just the Bradys and Mannings.

  • Rodrigothrasher

Tom Brady has drawn 5 roughing the passer calls since 2010, 4th fewest in the league. Fouts is another toolbag. Don’t resent Brady, man, you could have been a successful quarterback too, if you hadn’t choked at any opportunity to do so.

  • peter

he does realize that brady won all 3 championships b4 the rule changes. the carson palmer rule where u go at his knees was after. so was the 5 yard chuck rule. manning argue enough after ty law picked him 3 times. so he won all his chips with the same rules as the 90s qb. sorry funtes ur just not good enough even drew bledsoe has better numbers.. maybe the refs and nfl favors him bc he shouldnt be in the nfl hall fame

  • Pilgrim1620

jealous green is not your color Danny boy.

  • Nastyfoot

He’s not even calling the game next Sunday……….Just like his playing career his T.V. career is empty too.  Just another envious tool

  • mike

Nowadays the only way anyone knows who you are on any of these so called Sports shows is if you say something stupid…

  • John Charbonneau

I’m so tired of people hating the Pats because they WIN.  First it’s spygate, when EVERY NFL team for the last 50 years has done the same thing in trying to steal signals…heck George Allen was famous for renting hotel rooms across the road from the Cowboys practice field to spy on them.  Then it’s running up the score….no one said anything when the Bears beat the Pats 46-10 or the 49ers beat the Broncos 55-10 or the Redskins scoring 35 points in the first quarter of the super bowl.  So all of the critics can shove it!

  • Higgs

Two years ago there was an exhaustive study on who the most and least protected QB’s were. Everyone thought Brady would be the most protected, but the guy that got the most roughing the QB calls was Jason Campbell and Tom Brady was one of the least protected guys. There were only about six QB’s who got less calls than Brady.

The whole notion is a joke perpetuated by clowns like Dan Fouts who comment on the game of football, but don’t really follow the game of football. These are the guys that just repeat conventional wisdom and think it passes as analysis.  It’s the same reason Randy Cross is such a terrible analyst. He clearly doesn’t follow the game and just shows up on Sundays and collects a paycheck.

  • Tajam

Jealous much, Dan?  Let me guess, you weren’t protected well enough when you played and that was probably the reason you never really did win any big games in the NFL?

  • Cladmadder

Dan Fouts had 243 interceptions in his career. Most were the fault of the refs. Also the fault of the refs were his 16 ints vs 12 TD’s during his playoff career…

  • Gregory

Omg fouts is nuts, what calls?

  • LJ_patriot

Any ELITE quarterback gets “THE CALLS”. That’s how they stay active for so long. It’s good for the game. Are you stupid? Manning, Brady, Rogers, and to some extent, Brees, Ryan, and Other second tier  QB’s get special treatment. Nobody gets it all the time. It would be too obvious.

  • Choflo36

Dan Fouts’s body is covered in pubic hair.

  • Pedro

Its funny you bring up spygate, the patriots have not won the super bowl since spygate

  • Pedro

Maybe it could be the fact that he played in a era when you could actually hit the QB, today if you brush by him they call something. But i think they protect all of them the same way. That’s why Unitas was the greatest, he played when football was much more of a contact sport for the QB’s. Pretty soon there will be a cage around the QB.

  • Ztigr

I’ve noticed through the years that Brady seems to get an inordinate amount of intentional grounding calls compared to QB’;s that are better scramblers.    I”ve also noticed that he’s had like one roughing the passer call all season…so I don’t know why he would say this…ridiculous.

  • Donalmcl27

Best be careful. Reckless comments like that can help shorten his career,
Post season  Brady 17-6  Payton 9=11, I wonder what Fouts was.

  • Sbruce

And if you’re a Scotsman, I’m embarassed to be called one…

  • Dano7594

Hey Fouts, jealous much?  You were a career loser, deal with it.

  • DocGorham

    Jealous much?

  • Cfd184is13

Describe Dan Fouts: overrated, arrogant, underachiever, know-it-all, irrelevant, jealous

  • Patriots Insider

Peyton Manning is the most protected QB in the game.

  • Fab4ever

Another hater…keep ranting moron….and if he was on YOUR team, you’d be the first to be pounding Fouts….so predictable, each and every one of you. Don’t you have a shopping carriage to fetch?

  • Fab4ever

A bloated ego, that’s all Fouts is…and I’ve often said this BEFORE reading this rant…he’s still living off the fumes of that Miami game…wow…and then he got smoked in a real December game by the Bengals…guys like him shouldn’t be broadcasting if they can’t accept greatness happening to others….Boomer Esiason was a solid QB but he gets it. Marino and Fouts don’t….if this quote of his is merely trying to illicit a strategy that the Ravens must take, hey thanks Dan for that expert analysis…never could have figured that one out….

  • Fab4ever

Your mom called and wants her credit cards back….

  • Fab4ever

    Really…we didn’t know that….

  • Wdesimone

    What’s a Steve Beuerlein.
Isn’t he something they are hunting on Duck Dynasty?

  • WHASSUP027274

This type of comment from a guy who was a mediocre Q.B at best.  He even sucks as an announcer.
Do we detect a hint of jealousy as to how well Brady has done?
Hey Dan, he’s up there w. guys like Montana & Marino.. Where do you fit into that equation??
Somewhere near the BOTTOM of the list I would say!!

  • King_Messier

    And this is news????

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/7MERR6GTBJ2TCWXJMNNEYLK6FU Joe

You are a dunce. You clearly don’t watch football.

  • Jonnyboy22

You are an example of quarterback envy.  You were always a disappointment on game day and can’t stomach someone who has HOF ability.  I have never heard something like what you say come out of the mouths of Bradshaw, Marino, or Young.  Fouts was the only loser of the bunch, I say.

  • Gman

You know even less about football than Fouts. You can’t even spell Maureen McCormick’s character in the Brady Bunch. It’s spelled Marcia, you dummy.

  • Mal Tempo

Why does the NFL let a broken-down jealous QB like Fouts do game calling?

  • Boring Media Hype

another non story about what some insignificent former player says….yawn!!!!

  • TC

Clearly you are a disgruntled fan from a less superior team. Go cry on their website you D-bag!

  • Tom

Doesn’t every QB need protection in order to be effective?  What does that even mean?    I have seen every pats game for years, I have not noticed a lot of calls against other teams for roughing Brady, I don’t recall many if any at all this year.

  • Spickens1973

Fouts you are all wet. You never were a good Qb. And now not even a good analyst. Refs have nothing to do with Brady. It is his offensive line dummy

  • Whassup02724

TP74 – What’s th TP stand for?  TOILET PAPER – YOU SHITHEAD!!  Another Hater who’s team sucks.

  • Dennis

Dan Fouts made a very stupid (just short of sounding like an idiot?) statement! How many other quarterbacks do you believe get “special treatment” by the refs Dan?! Hope the Pats choose to ignore that statement! Go Pats! Kick some butt Sunday and silence the other guy who shot his mouth off this week!

  • Anonymous
  • Budsox

What does he know? He never won crap. Lifetime loser. Just jealous.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/Y2IUMECRJB7GHMVKNM52ANLHSU John

Fouts has been suspended before for his drinking issues. He doesnt work for ESPN anymore due to it I believe
Sounds like its time to send him to rehab again

  • stumpsr

Dan Fouts was effective way back when plaid bell bottoms and thick white belts (Coryell) were in vogue. Maybe he should take another look at some of the shots that Brady takes during the game before he speaks. You only need to look at this last game.

  • Boslad

Oh Dan, what brilliant analysis! Get the quarterback on the ground and he becomes less effective. Wow, jeez now the Ravens know the secret.  My God what are we going to do???

  • Peter Griffin

Did you see the calls they were giving Manning on Sunday? I thought Tim Donaghy was refereeing. And lets be real i dont see alot of the Qbs take the shots Brady does. 1st game with Denver this year. Its just spite

  • Guest

I hear Fouts is replacing Nantz and will handle the announcing with Simms this Sunday. The short bus is rolling into Foxboro.

  • Rp

thats why he works for cbs, because espn even thinks he’s a fraud

  • Jjburke200

    Pretty Useless commentary Dan

  • anguillaman3

YIKES….I thought Brady took a pretty good beating on Sunday..and he often does..he never complained about it on Sunday.  Typical of these analysts that watch one or two games a season of a specific team.

  • Mcar

Hey Dan…I think they are making another waterboy movie you can play a part in…on second thought…you sucked in the first one…what a jerk

  • Svillegassenior

Coming from a fag that has never won a damn thing…

  • Rwest

Dan Fouts…just another turd in the punch bowl

  • Briansf11

Did he see Manning complain his way to the refs out of an obvious penalty ?

  • Anonymous

Fouts must be angling for a cosistent gig on the show.  If he produces enough outrage from football fans, he could possibly get his 15 minutes.  It’s too bad because I had some respect for him during his playing career.

  • Johnny Spygate

This is news??  Really?  Of course he gets special treatment.  The guy basically gets to call his own penalties. The only people who don’t want to admit it are the yahoos.  So laughable reading these comments.  Once again you simpletons bring a smile to my face.
That being said, the Pats should win big Sunday.  Much better team than the beat-up Ravens.  No excuses.

  • Really?

It couldn’t be that Brady has built up 12 years of credibility for never complaining about the officiating, assuming responsibility for mediocre or bad play, standing in the pocket and delivering better than average performance game in and game out – A feat Fouts could never accomplish.  Haters gonna be haters.

  • Anonymous

isn’t that what Watts and all the rest of them said? just not going to happen!

  • Anonymous

    ur f………!

  • Pbokeefe7

All great players, in any sport, get a few extra calls…as long as they’re classy and well respected.  Look at Jordan in hoop and the way the NHL protected Gretzky and Lemeiux.  Fouts is just pissed that he threw for a million yards and it led to 0 rings.  As for Steve Beuerlein, really? Really Steve Beuerlein, you’re going to chime in?  Who’s not Sean Salisbury? Dave Krieg? Scott Mitchell?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=542226538 Ed Mancini

I think Fouts took one too many to the head.

  • Pbokeefe7

    I meant who’s next…

  • Anonymous

Just ask Felger.  He’s the poster boy for this trend.

  • Pbokeefe7

Dan Fouts = Tony Romo of the 70s and 80s…fantasy stud, won nada!

  • Loser

Somebody should tell Fouts that it is 2013 and jerseys don’t get dirty anymore.  Its artificial turf.

  • Bruinman86

Show me a QB that doesn’t need protecting??? We were told for years that Michael Vick didn’t need it, and that he could make plays on his own with his running ability. Guess we all know how that worked out.

  • Cmhop1960

Hey Dan, I noticed you were not wearing your Super Bowl rings…. Oh sorry.

  • Hmv111

100%. Can you say tuck rule. Somebody said it, I don’t remember who, but it only applies to T Brady. See Denver/Baltimore game.

  • Dennis

AMEN to that, very well said!!!

  • Fah-Q

Fouts is correct. Brady and Manning get special treatment

  • Anonymous

What Fouts said is pretty incidental, and his credentials are unquestioned.  The overall idea is true.  What’s the problem?  Get off Fouts’s back.

  • Big Ed H

OK Peyton Manning on Saturday-a perfect example of the tuck rule called a fumble. As we all know, the Brady Rules only apply to Tommy boy.

  • Bob

I am sick and tired of these hating-on-the-Pats stories that crop up whenever they advance to the playoffs. Do these guys think they don’t deserve any credit for being one of the most successful franchises in this or any sport? Like the Baltimore LB whose sour grapes Tweet came out yesterday, all they can do is B__ch. Let them show it on the field.

  • Anonymous

The examples are what the Giants did to the Patriots, that couldn’t be done by other teams, because they had an all-time front four.  it’s why Baltimore nearly won last year.  It’s one of the liabilities we have if the offensive line doesn’t do the job.  I think Baltimore is a little banged-up, and aging, which is why I hope/think we will win.  GO PATS!!!

  • Brianredsox04

DAH ! You think ! Such insight !

  • Johnny Spygate

Such a thin-skinned bunch of a ss clowns.  Who’s the genius who said Brady’s built up credibility by not complaining about the officiating?  I’d love to know what color the sky is in your world, sport.  The guy complains & points after e-v-e-r-y time he’s hit.  There’s no debate about that.
But keep piling on old man Fouts. That’ll make your point more valid.
    Peculiar bunch, you people.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_LGMZMQ5VVG2F7E4X3OUBPRFFZM Jeff S

What QB doesn’t? Those sour grapes form never winning still leaving a bitter taste Dan?

  • Everyone

Valid point.  The league protects all quarterbacks.

  • Snipehunter51

Fouts is a moron.  My advice to him…stick to doing Adam Sandler movies and leave the color commentary to those who understand the game!

  • Mrmc59

Dan Fouts….  was he ever anything??  I mean really Any SB rings?  Any records??  Anything…

  • Anonymous

Complaining to get calls isn’t unique to Brady or to QBs , for that matter.  Receivers are constantly crying foul.  Defensive linemen are always griping for holding calls.  You keep telling it like it is, JohnnyBoy, that’ll make your point more valid.  Peculiar bunch, these trolls.

  • jj

Funny how all these guys and players try and reach to find something with the Patriots.

Anyone remember the late hit on Brady the other day that there wasnt even a flag?

  • jj

Hey Fouts, where’s your ring at?

  • Cherokee

From the mouth of ‘losers’. Neither one of them received “special treatment”  from the “officials” because they never warranted it. A couple of ‘ham and eggers” at best. Seriously, these two Forest Gumps advising the Ravens gang on how to win ? Why, they couldn’t spell win, even if you spot them the “w”.

  • Clhsr

Absolutely true TB needs protection to be effective  as does super hero PM, Brees. Flacco, Eli, any QB that is not as mobile as AR, Wilson, Newton, etc. As far as special treatment by the refs, that’s just pure jealousy. TB is hit, sacked, knocked down often and I remember maybe 1 roughing the passer this year, I’m probably wrong but that’s what I remember. Fouts is a jealous loser like the rest of the haters.

  • Gadsden54

This guy doesn’t even deserve a comment.  Brady had at least 2 dives at his knees this year, right in front of the refs.  No flag.  Look around the league, I think most of the quarterbacks are getting the same protection, if anything since that rule was put in for the low hits, Brady gets less protection from the refs.

  • H25

Always liked Fouts – until now.  Jealous old has been.

  • Anonymous

    Absolutely true.

The entire Patriots organization is corrupt – from Belichek down.

New England couldn’t win without cheating – that is all anyone needs to know about the NFL.

That is whjy we watch college.  But of course, with corrupt ESPN controlling TV $$$ – we get stuck with BS Notre Damne – what a joke.

The real college cvhampionship was played in Atlanta when Bama barely hung on to beat a surging Georgia.

    TV DESTROYS EVERYTHING IN SPORTS.

  • Pass_the_dice

Fouts is such a baby.  Why is it when someone does well that person catches a break.  Where is the proof?  Gee, why doesn’t he mention Peyton or anyone else.

He is just trying to stir the pot so you will watch is show.  Don’t watch his show what a waste of time.

  • Anonymous

Never won anything – what are you, some 20 somehting.  You have no clue what he won. Best QB in AFL – and in his prime – could handily beat most sleazy NFL teams.

    You are just stupid.

  • Tman207

Fouts is just trying to piss off the Patriots….

  • NHfan

Come on folks, Brady does get calls.  I have no problem with it, but facts are facts

  • GNFRFAN

Don’t anyone let facts get in the way of your argument (Dan included)… Tom Brady for the last several years has been in the middle of the pack when it comes to roughing calls.

  • Newport

News flash Dan Fouts. EVERY QUARTERBACK GETS SPECIAL TREATMENT! its not like the game you played anymore. you cant hit them anymore its the way the game is. but you Dan Fouts have been concussed a hand full to many times to realize that. Get your head checked out! I agree with Steve Beuerlein 100% you have to get him dirty but the o-line is solid and healthy which is not got for the ravens

  • markfromlynn

Fouts is yet another ex-player who’s jealous that he never won anything.

  • Guess

The entire organization is corrupted, then it has to be from Krafts down, idiot!

  • http://www.facebook.com/mike.spiteri Mike Spiteri

That said just take a shot right back at him

  • http://www.facebook.com/mike.spiteri Mike Spiteri

that makes him no different than Wayne Gretzky, with the exception Gretzky was a woman

  • Guess

I didn’t watch this has been show.  Did he have any facts or statistics to support that?  In order to claim somebody has special treatments, bring out the numbers.  Stats are easy to get in this day and age, but may be that is too difficult for the old geezer to deal with.

  • ScoopBurton

Let me know when he shows off his rings

  • Anonymous

Fouts earned everything he had – didn’t cheat like the corrupt Patriots.

You one of those Kennedy lovers – or better yet, a Barney Frank fan??

  • Fred Gardiner

    Go back to Baltimore…and wine!

  • Anonymous

Of course, you know a comment like that would come from a choker like Fouts. He played well when he was in the Super Bowl, LOL. He states the obvious like the moron he is. ANY QUARTERBACK IN THE NFL will have a tough time if he’s getting pounded all game. All except Fouts of course. He showed he could win while throwing the ball while laying on his back; ya right. I’m surprised he wasn’t on his back more than he was … I seem to remember him dropping back looking like he had one leg 6 inches shorter than the other. I actually felt bad for him thought he had to be put in for a disablity. What game were you watching Dan? It seemed to me that the Texans were the ones being protected by the Zebras.

  • Anonymous

Yeah – the Patriots are beyond corruption – they never ever cheat.

Just a real quality group of players, owners and coaches.  Backed up by fans that vote for Barney Frank, Jo0hn kerry and Teddy Kennedy.

Tell us how “clean” New England is –

    whata joke.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_L4ZET7H7KOG7RWYUF4NIAZYEMM Robert

The downwardly-mobile color announcer Dan Fouts may be surprised to know the Patriots have been ranked 20th or below in roughing the passer calls against Brady over the past 5 seasons.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_L4ZET7H7KOG7RWYUF4NIAZYEMM Robert

The Patriots have been ranked 20th or below in roughing the passer calls over the past 5 seasons.

Perfect, thanks for bringing that up.  He’s knocked down and hit all the time with no roughing calls.

Fouts is out of his mind,Brady in some games get’s hit harder than most other QB’s.Fouts is just an idiot.

  • Anonymous

How in the name of everything that is Holy did Dan Fouts get into the Hall of Fame? He should know when he played that the idea of ANY defense is to make the opposing QB uncomfortable, and to put the dude on the ground.  As far as Brady getting favors from the refs, can he show us? The Texans got almost all the calls this past Sunday.  Tom has gotten hit late during the season, and no flag.

  • Uncle Buck

Right, all the haters in one board here.  Jealousy is the sincerest form of flattery.  Laughable the nitwits are.  Johnny and his band of trolls trying to tread water while drowning in the sorrow of their team’s seasons having ended already.  All the Patriots do is keep winning.  Knock em down and they get right back up.

  • Loumet98

Seven trips to the AFC Championship game in 12 years!! Mr Brady is the beneficiary of a very solid offensive line that protects him. Two of his top lineman did not return this year & the beat goes on. Why is it that Mr Brady is at the top of the list in thrown touchdowns & the least interceptions almost every year? Not too many quarterbacks would be able to handle such a complicated offensive system. It appears that the Giants are one of the few teams that have been able to get Brady’s uniform dirty & it took 2 spectacular plays to beat him. He is one of the all time best quarterbacks & I grew up watching John Unitas, YA Tittle, Bart Starr!

  • Pglown22

just another quarterback that never went to the big game.brady takes alot of hits and gets up.yes once in a while he complains but usually with good cause

  • Anytime

I wont bash Dan, but i will say. An effective pass rush is how you beat all quarterbacks, not just brady. I find it very annoying when people act like Brady is the only qb that can be beaten by pressure.

  • Anonymous

Fouts seems to be jealous of Brady. Somebody should check Fouts’ coffee, perhaps it was a bit strong???? with some added flavoring. CBS should take a look at Fouts’ announcing and etc. not very good.
Peyton seems to be more protected than any other QB.

  • Johnny Spygate

Let me get on board with the overwhelming tide of yahooism:
    Brady is best everrrrrrr
Brady never get’s any breaks from the refs
    The patriots never cheated. Ever.

    That about right?

  • Rich Fougeee

Sure the NFL protects Brady it’s not the same game as when Fouts played
Today the league protects ALL the QBs.for the most part they are the Stars.

They bring in the fans and generate billions I remember when Tom went out for
a whole season and Matt Cassel came in.the seats were only 3/4 full til he
    started winning..
Hey Danny boy worry about your Terrible calls on TV and Radio!!
You never won anyting ….Jealous a Little!!

  • Mcar

Pretty obvious you are not a pats fan…and the patriots did cheat…just like all the other teams in the nfl…spygate? what a joke…if you not cheating, you’re not trying

  • Gopats_1

Dan who? How many rings did he get? Hmmm NONE!

  • James

Here we go again. Another year when we find our boys in red/white and blue, in the AFC dance.
Another year where it is literally them against the world. Where all the so-called football guru’s offer up there take on how to stop the Pats. Not any other team mind you, just the Pats. How ’bout, how to… against the Niners, or the Ravens. Dan Fouts talks about TB getting “special treatment”.  The entire Ravens team gets “special treatment” from the officials. I won’t even go into how the Texans got “special treatment”.
Just get it done, Pats.  So all these guru’s can shut the ‘ell up.

  • Dee-fense, dee-fense!

I tried to watch a game earlier this year while listening to Gil’s radio coverage, like I did years ago. Sadly, they’re out of synch – no longer both pure live accounts. Fouts makes me long for those days . . .

  • San Diego Dreamer

Yes Dan, Brady is way better than you ever dreamed of being. As if you didn’t catch a break or two. What a jealous loser.

  • Ronsterlee

Dan Fouts is a top 25 all-time QB. PS- He’s also an idiot.

  • Ronsterlee

    Steeler’s Fan ??????? Ha Ha

  • Fjl

listen to the jealous old timer who never won a thing…………

just another patriots hater venting about perceived nonsense………..

sorry dan, you had your day, and missed your shot….get over it………..loser

  • Why_is_he_in_HOF?

This is from the guy who threw as much INTs as TDs?

  • Chappy

Dan Fouts….there’s some real analysis for you – he did get the offensive line part correct though.  He must have tuned in to the Houston radio station last week to listen to Bill Romanowski give his analysis…….the worst part about this weeks’ gane is we have to listen to Phil Simms AGAIN…..as much as Buck is a homer I’d rather have him and Aikman any day…..

  • Timborges

Does Dan have any examples ? It doesn’t sound like something an analyst should be throwing out there with nothing to back it up. Perhaps it has something to do with the pain TB12 has inflicted on the Chargers over the last decade.

  • Hater’s Gonna Hate

I’ve heard that line spouted by haters before. “Brady gets all the calls, he whines when he gets hit, what a wimp!!!” Blah, blah, blah. Pretty pathetic attempt to hide your jealousy and envy of one of the greatest QBs to ever play the game if you ask me.  I’ve seen him get sacked numerous times and never even look at an official afterwards, never mind complain to one.  If he gets hit in the helmet or below the knees, of course he’ll probably say something.  Why wouldn’t he?  It’s against the rules now.  But look at hits he took earlier in his career, shots to the head (there’s a widely viewed video of him taking a tremendous shot from Nate Clements to the head on youtube for example), clean sacks (for instance the sack he took from Elvis Dumervil last season), he never complains at all.  Just simply gets up and shakes it off.  Brady got sacked by Watt during last Sunday’s game and didn’t complain at all, for yet another example.  You’re just another hater. Yawn.

The league protects all QBs and “defenseless” receivers now, Brady gets no “special” treatment. Just a ridiculous comment from Fouts there, sorry.

  • TedSox

Speaking of special treatment I would like to know how Suggs has miraculously returned in 5 months from an injury where it takes that amount of time to re-grow the injured tendon before any type of rehab and Lweis walks around looking like a human cyborg. Have we heard anything about PED’s. Why are sports journalists (hello Maz.) congratulating themselves on keeping cheaters out of the HOF then in the next breath protecting the saintly Lewis. Do we honestly believe AP and Welker can return to full speed months sooner than other atheletes with the same injury? Perhaps players would not need so much protection from injury and concussions if all players had to play on a level playing field. That being said, Go Pats. They take what challenges are presented to them and overcome them without any whinning or complaint.

  • Rich Fougeee

Danny Boy GROW up!!…….Yes the rules were different when you  played.
They protect All the QBs to  the same exact rules!
When you played the NFL was still fairley young.
The $$$$$$$$$$$ is in a healty QB
When Brady got hurt  the stadium was only 3/4 full then Cassell starting winning
they were playing to a Full house again.
They make more bucks when the stars are healty!!!!!!!!
Danny Boy= just a little jealous?????? Oh ya You SUCK on the TV

  • 007casti

The TUCK RULE for one lol

  • Rich Fougeee

What is Danny Boy Thinking…………His head must hurt from all the hard hits he took!!!
The  NFL protects ALL the QBs that’s where the  $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ are

  • Go PATS

Who really cares what the trolls and haters say The pats play Sunday. Brady has a chance along with team to go to the Super Bowl again.

  • Anonymous

Dan, you hater-bandwagon-jumper, spend a little time checking your facts. New England
    averages the most offensive plays
per game. Yet according to nflpenalties.com, which seems to do exhaustive tracking of all NFL penalties, in all of 2012 New England
was the beneficiary of only two roughing the passer calls — only 4 or 5
teams received fewer. You would think the quarterback that handles the
ball more than any other would receive more calls, but no. Does that
translate to Brady getting breaks from the refs? Hardly. 2011: 1 RTP call. 2010: 2 RTP calls. 2009 — the first year of the so-called “Brady Rule”, after he missed the 2008 season: 6 RTP calls. Same year, Buffalo was the beneficiary of NINE such calls, and two of those against New England. So, as I said, check your facts.

  • Pats

It seems around the playoffs all the idiots come out of the woodwork to throw in there two cents….it really is jealousy, they can’t stand the fact that Brady is in the playoffs EVERY year.

  • BigPat

Brady had 2 RTP calls all year and 4 since 2010, einstein.

  • BigPat

Dan, you should be happy there have been rule changes for protecting players. Otherwise, they’d all end up as nuts as you. Did you even bother to look up the stats? No – didn’t think so…

  • mop it up bigboy

They have not even lost yet and there is crying already. Man at least wait till you lose.

  • Anonymous

NHfan, as you say, facts are facts. So check ‘em… nflpenalties.com. Extensive, and easy to sort by team. Yes, facts are facts, which is why I for one am fed up with the myths perpetuated by the usual Pats-haters like Steelers/Ravens/Jets fans, or worse, by so-called informed analysts. I can understand why the haters do it. By why a HOF QB who is paid by CBS Sports to be an “analyst” does it is mystifying, so one has to assume there’s some championship envy going on there. Because it sure ain’t analysis.

  • Pats

Dude just check the facts, You sound like a true idiot when you say Brady gets special treatment….What is sad is that you actually BELIEVE yourself when this BS comes out of your mouth….Brady has more intentional grounding calls this year than roughing the passer calls, you really are delusional.

  • Anonymous

Funny thing about the “Brady Rule” is it is actually the Carson Palmer rule. Which had been implemented before the ’06 season.

  • NE Texas

I have wondered about Fouts a couple of times this year.  I honestly think that he needs to be evaluated.  I saw him take some pretty hard hits when he was playing.

  • Dale

He’s only saying what every non-Patriot fan knows! If you touch Princess Tommy you get hit with a hanky.

  • Anonymous

It has to suck living a life where you are forced to make up a fantasy world with no resemblance to reality in order to deal with a reality you clearly hate…
What your post translates to is, “Pats beat my team every year and I can’t cope with that, so I make up excuses so my team still has that special place in my heart”

  • Anonymous

     Your envy is showing.
There is no evidence to back this claim up what-so-ever, in fact just the opposite appears to be true when the facts and numbers are laid out.
What we have with you is yet another case of creating a delusional reality in order to cope with being a fan of a team who can only dream of having a QB like Brady and to deal with your sad pathetic miserable life of rooting for said team.

  • Anonymous

It’s becoming increasingly apparent that it is all you know about the NFL….how sad, that the one thing you “know” and obsess over is a fallacy

  • Anonymous

     Not according to the stats

  • Anonymous

Yeah – look at your pseudonym – SICKBOY – sure gonna give you all kinds of credibility that you voluntarily chose that name.

    What an f–ing loser.

probably Barney Franks best bud.  Carry Teddy’s briefcase too???

What a loser – SICKBOY – you havbe to be kidding.

  • Anonymous

Bottom line, they and Fouts resist to give Tom Brady any credit at all for his accomplishments.
Jealousy rises it’s ugly head in people that you never thought off.  Fouts never had a head coach like BB….go pats!!!!

  • Anonymous

    Says savesc…whatever that means.

Doubt you know what Sick-Boy means either…being that
    you’re a clueless con-tard.

Kidding? You have to joke when dealing with a joke, which
    you are.

Fact is: Your fantasy about Brady getting special treatment
isn’t held up by any number, fact, stat, or video. It’s just another delusion
your subconscious has created to deal with how incredibly pathetic and
depressing your life is, and how reality doesn’t work with everything you
    think, say, believe and do.

What if I was Barney Frank’s best bud? What exactly would
that mean? That I was friends with a US Senator and more successful than you….which
isn’t saying much as most WalMart employees are more successful than a Tea
Bagging, red diaper ditto-head, who masturbates to Shawn Hannity and believes
that Ann Coulter is actually a woman, red-state welfare receiving, closet case
    a_s such as yourself.

We know this obsession and anger comes from your crush on
Tom Brady. This anger and need to express it constantly online on another team’s
web site comes from your pathological need to attempt to get Brady and the rest
of the Patriots out of your head where they dominate your fantasies every
    waking moment.

  • Vermontpatriots

How about the non calls(HOLDING) on the Giants O-line keeping old ELI upright those last two super Bowl wins???????????????????????????????

  • Choflo36

We’re all just waiting…holding our breath…till we can tell the haters to suck it.

  • RP2151

Just another blowhart trying to get some attention.

  • Anonymous

Sickboy, why are you trying to reason with someone who probably left school in the 8th grade to take care of the baby he had with his 12-year-old cousin? He obsesses over Brady because his life is utterly devoid of joy. Have a little mercy on our less fortunate brethren. :-)

  • Fab4ever

The only simpleton here is you….just calling it like I see it….I guess Boston sports exists to amuse you….you’ll have plenty to amuse yourself with your Yanks this summer….has Eli thrown another pick yet?

  • Fab4ever

    Time for the meds son….

  • Fab4ever

Now you’ve got it. The meds must have kicked in…made you smart.

  • Fab4ever

Yep…and like Michael Holly said the other day, he kind of likes the fact that the Pats are “hated”….means they’re the best….but what he finds most ironic is that most of the haters come from NY…which is peculiar because they should know the feeling…the Yanks have been the hallmark for years….so the only conclusion is they’re either jeaous or envious…they think being the “best” is exclusive to NY…..

  • Fab4ever

Spygate is an idiot…you can’t reason with him….he must have been beating the bishop in front of Giselle posters …when he heard Brady was her BF, that’s when he became all prissy about Tom…..

  • YoMamma

No one watches that crappy network anyway.  He’ll be doing the lingere football league soon.

  • Anonymous

Wrong… There were at least 4 pass interference calls that the refs did not call on the Patriots.  In the first half, Owen Daniels was interfered with on one play, and on the very next play Arian Foster’s jersey was grabbed.

Aaron Hernandez knocked over the defender twice, but the refs missed the first one that led to a Patriots TD, but got the second one.  Wes Welker pushed off on his catch down the right sideline (That’s why the DB was not able to make the tackle).

Though the horse collar call on the punter was seen, there was the missed call on the trip by the kicker on the return on another play.

The sheer fact that you would use the word EVERY shows that you do not have objectivity in the matter.

Such is FANATICISM and Go Ravens!!!

  • Conrad101f

Breaking news, the way to beat the Patriots is disrupt the quarterback and passing game. Hey dynamite analysis Beuerlein. I think he followed up by saying the Ravens will need to get in the endzone more times as well.

  • Ndfball05

Scotsman you sound like that DB Fouts!!!  BTW its Great to see you back in men’s clothing!!!

  • Vincanity

Fouts was painful to listen to as analyst!!!  he is a hater.Id love to knock that gay old man’s Just for Men’s beard off his face with one shot to the jaw!!! What a joke Fouts is!! He needs to stick to looking like Michael Mc Donald from the Doobie Bros that joker!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/frank.pessin Frank Pessin

maybe you can win SOMETHING before you open your pie hole

  • The_Slicker

Wow, I don’t think I have seen this many comments in a long time.  We
are angry, I have to say I am disappointed that Fouts said that.  He was
a great QB, but he couldn’t escape the rush and would get dragged down like clockwork.  Brady has that shiver move and pocket presence.
Fouts could chuck the ball, from the pocket.  I don’t get why he is
saying this.  His announcing does blow!  Now he is dead to me, another
    pile of garbage.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_D5C2FX3FRN3WC4E4MS4BUHUAR4 Sean

Non-calls are not calls. The refs were letting them play. I have no problem with that aspect, it allows the more physical team an advantage.

However, as I stated, EVERY questionable CALL went against the Patriots.

  • Pats

The first time you say that Aaron Hernandez should have been called for P.I. i remember quinn (i think it was) he actually FELL down the first time, even Nantz said he fell so i don’t agree with that….Also the Wes Welker play he caught the ball with ONE hand, his other arm was behind the back of the defender, and the defender was stuck on him like glue….That was just a great catch by Welker.

  • Laffertybrad

Tom Brady at 24 years old turned loserville (Boston) into title town starting in 2001. Every other Beantown team followed with championships after him. Don’t forget his top mini targets in the first Super Bowl were Troy Brown and David Patten!

Thinking about the pass rush !!!!mmmmmmmm, have Steve Beuerlein ever watch Brady against the pass rush?did he know that Brady is perfect when the D blitz? if I am not mistaken he through 21 TD 0 INT.
    .

  • Choflo36

This is setting up perfectly for Ray Lewis to draw a ruffing the passer penalty because his old man legs get him there two steps too late and he just can’t resist the temptation to drive Brady to the turf one last time. Brady pops up and gives Ray his hand before walking fifteen yds. closer to the Ravens goal line.

  • Matthew Bourassa

Patriots rank 20th in beneficiary “roughing the passer” penalties.  Lawyered.

How many Superbowls did you win Fouts? Thats right!!!

  • Lizzzne

I was interested in the new show Monday QB, until I watched a couple of episodes.  One of the least interesting or entertaining football commentary shows out there.  Officials make mistakes on both sides of the ball in any game.  And if they are recommending that Baltimore attack Brady, then they are saying he is better than Flacco. That he is so feared that the only way to try to win a game is to take him out of the game.  So if Brady should be sacked, then to make it even, Flacco should be equally sacked.  I have stopped watching Monday QB entirely regardless of what one of the commentators had to say in this instance.
