Another puff piece from Bradford trying to paint Beckett in a positive light. Unreal how much of a fan boy Bradford is. Shouldn’t WEEI bosses be pretty disappointed that this guy appears to miss anything that happens negative involving the players.

There may be only a lonely few of us in Boston who see Lackey as a gutty grinder who pitched hurt as long as he could–and who could come back as good as he ever was with LAA.  If he does, we get a 2 starter at major league minimum in a few years.  Lackey’s whole life blew up on him a year ago. Boston’s a great enough town to give the guy a chance to put the pieces back together.

 Maybe Bradford has it right.  Do you know Beckett?  He does.  You rely on the FINE Boston media to TELL YOU what Beckett it like.  You don’t even know him.  I for one believe he was the scapegoat for all that went bad.  I never read or saw ONE FACT that proved Beckett was the problem the media portrayed him as. 

Was he pitching great – no.  But the media was never writing about that – it was always about him being the “problem” – well I will ask again  Sox fans – where are the facts to back that up.  Where are links to stories of him being a problem in the clubhouse.  Where are links to stories of him having troubles with teammates, managers, front office.  Where are the links to stories of him NOT be accountable for his pitching.  I couldn’t find any.

Boston media didn’t like Beckett cause he wouldn’t give them what they wanted.  They slammed him until it was impossible for him to stay.  The sad thing is – Sox fans BELIEVED the media without any facts.  The media has done this time and time again. I am shocked that the media is NEVER held accountable for anything they print or say.  I am shocked hte media continues to have such access to the clubhouse. 

Over the last couple of months I have become less and less of a Sox fan.  NOT because they are losing (that happens in the game of baseball) but because of all the crap that the media goes on about.  I am even talking about NESN – can’t even watch the game without hearing it.  With this move – I am done with the Sox.  Not cause the guys got traded – but because of the way the media and fans have been.  It is so classless and sickening.

Oh I can say is the clubhouse better be on alert.  The media’s next victim is sitting in there.  With Beckett now gone – there is no one for them to blame for everything and write about everyday.  So WATCH OUT Sox players – one of you are next.

Beckett created his own bed, so too bad if he didn’t want to sleep in it. That’s the huge issue with this team, no one wants to take any responsibility for their actions. It’s gone to the point of almost being a joke. The Red Sox have gone from a team of lovable goofballs and a contender to a mutinous bunch of buffoons who are more worried about their fragile ego’s and public persona than they are about what they do on the field. The inmates are running the asylum, and I for one am glad to see a guy like Beckett go. No matter how much success he has going forward he was nothing but nuisance here. If he was the role model for the younger pitchers it’s no wonder Lester has gone off a cliff. I just have to shake my head, the guys who left took a picture saturday on the jet all smiles and thumbs up, they all complain about the atmosphere, but they created it. They think they got an easy out but as a fan I’m glad I don’t have to see any of them in a Sox uniform again. Theo’s mistakes have been washed away…..now lets build a team of real players that care about baseball. Not this group of muppets.

I’m sorry, but not sure if I remember an ace pitcher telling us in the Spring he’s not putting as much importance on baseball as he used to, and then standing up to show how fat and out of shape he got in the off-season. Usually, guys try to be more coy about that. And trying, but still can’t recall a pitcher on the DL with a strained oblique hitting the links for 18 the day before coming off the DL. 
I just wish Beck had a chance to swing by our local youth baseball program. Our pitching machine is broken.

Players who were once viewed as heroes get turned into the bad guys all the time here. Guys like Nomar, Mo Vaughn, Clemens, even Curt Schilling gets slammed a lot around here. I think your on target here in many ways….but not 100%.  The thing is that this is baseball, its not football or hockey.  The overall mentality of players is entirely different…the sport, length of season..the CBA all results in “what we have”.  I also like Rob Bradford, sure he’s a team guy ..he is close to the players, but this allows for interviews and a perspective we would not otherwise get.  ROB may be to RAH RAH at times..he roots for the team and the players, but all that is not bad either.  He’s a good guy overall…and a knowledgeable baseball guy.

Beckett helped get ine if the best managers in Red Sox history fired because he could not work out and keep himself in shape last year. Yeah it was Becketts fault and several other as well. I hope they can look ar themselves in the mirror.

Of course John Lackey doesn’t see the problem with Beckett. When you are part of that problem, it looks normal and okay. Hopefully now at least they can get a few good starts out of him so he has value on the trade market.

Guys, don’t expect Bradford or anyone else at WEEI to ask any of the tough questions. They’re the guys that have to deal with these players on a regular basis and cannot lose the player’s trust. What is the point of being a clubhouse insider if you are not going to ask any tough questions? Rob Bradford is one of the worst enablers in the media to these players. In response to that line about the Beckett bowl, the follow up should be “How come the entire team looked hungover the next day during the game, and even Clay Bucholz who was on fire looked terrible after Beckett Bowl?” Lackey is still a complete self entitled drunk, how about be professional and do a charity event without getting so drunk you can barely play the next day? 

I am sorry but the clean sweep wont be complete until Lackey is shipped out of town. This guy is a piece of crap and I won’t root for him period.

What’s done id done as always we continue to milk every drop. Rob you are a good baseball man so I will cut you slack . We own Lackey why wine about it , the pulled of a miracle in the salary dump and hope he pitch’s 12-6 with era 3.85 or so . The moral of the story: perform well and win and this crap goes away.  Lackey did not pitch well, he was part of the September collapse, he became a scapegoat for it.  His buddy Beckett sharply declined and stated publicly his lack of focus on baseball (and the obvious conditioning problems).  If all of this happened (which in 2004 a lot of similar things probably did) and the Sox won the World Series, no one would be saying anything about Lackey and Beckett.  Lackey doesn’t seem to get it.  When you suck, you suck.

Now we need to get rid of Lackey if possible.  Hey we got someone to bite on Beckett, there has to be some team out there foolish enough to assume the bloated contract of the worst pitcher in the American League last year.

Oh and BTW, a family friend went to the same public high school as Beckett and found him to be a supremely arrogant jerk, not unlike what we have seen of his behavior while in Boston.

Beer and chicken in the locker room for a pitcher who isn’t pitching isn’t nearly as bad as a bunch of your starting players taking shots of whiskey before a playoff game.  The difference is the Sox won the playoff game.  If they lost that, Francona probably would have been out of here then.

Do I like the idea of the pitchers having beer and chicken in the locker room while their team is playing?  No.  But honestly, I don’t understand a pitcher heading to the showers while his team is still playing a game.  I don’t understand football players sitting on a bench and not watching their team play – and I don’t mean when they’re getting coached or going over stuff with teammates.

Your post only skirts what is wrong, the Boston Media has been rotten for years, I understand what you are saying and to a large extent you are right on.  But when the writers like for example Buster Olney do a hatchet job on the ” Toxic Clubhouse”, without any names etc, it’s just a fluff or filler piece that sholdn’t even be in print, yet this type of smear journalism is norm in Boston, like when Clay got out of the hospital, WEEI talk shows sounded as if he had killed 4 people, by going to Foxwoods for a charity event, this kind of reporting is the worst possible, and WEEI not only continues it, they revel in it.  Adrain had a great comment for a reporter before leaving, he stated they usually ask him “Gossip” questins, not baseball questions, see this is Weei and the rest of Boston reporters.  A real sad situation, I wonder if Rupert Murdoch owns the Media in Boston?

One thing I will say about Lackey.. he is probably correct about Beckett, but I agree with the others.  If for no other reason, forgetting the personal, look how the latter pitched tonight in LA.. He’s past his peak, and it was time to unload him, if for no other reason than performance, in which he admitted himself..

What about Lackey and Matsuzaka?  I think Lackey is correct about acquiring reputations.. However, like GMC, he has one himself, and would probably do better somewhere else. In this time of high price contracts, a trip back to the Angels would be in order.   Let the kids pitch.. Not to get personal, but look at events from an economic side. Take the salary dump, and move him out.. Too much of a legacy, right or wrong.  

Management is beginning to realize that if owners-GM-manager don’t get together, then the players will be like spoiled children.. Hold Valentine accountable, give him a list of expectations, but allow him to pick his coaches, and particularly an outstanding pitching coach.. Don’t let the players go behind his back.. As much as I like Aceves, what he did is inexcusable.. He’s got to go. Release him to send a message to others.. Valentine deserves the respect, and has one year to do something about it.. The media should stop chipping at his heels, and second guessing him. He has one year.  No progress he’s gone.. Same standard as the players.

About Dice K, I would be upfront, whether he and Loney stay depends on performance, interaction with team and management.. If they don’t cut it, they’re gone too.. With baseball the way it is.. Mgmnt needs to build a policy of three year contracts, four on an option, or an extension of another three years, but thats it.. No like, take a hike.. 

The BoSox need to stockpile pitchers on both ends-starters and relief.. I might give Aceves another chance if he apologized to the team and Bobby V.. If he does, instead of humiliating him, I would ask him to convert back to starter.. If he is going to hit the roof, ask him not to hit himself when he slams the door.. 

Now is the time to establish a fiscal policy, and shop for a combo of established and rookie pitchers and bullpen.. They need to think in terms of three year contracts.  Players with mouth and attitude can play somewhere else.  I think that BenC did right in saying that the trade was a new start for players, and forget all the hoopla, period.. No more second guessing on the media’s part. They need responsible also.  

Boston is still the best place to play in both leagues.. But players need to understand that they have a job to do, or move on.. Management should also be give a list of expectations, but with the financial clout to find the people to do it..  I don’t know what the management was thinking when they picked coaches for the manager. Bad move, something I hope doesn’t happen again..

Let the kids pitch,huh???? how’s that working out in Kansas city with all of their first round picks over the years??  We’re not close with our young pitchers….Are you prepared to lose 90 games for a couple of years??? With a big increase in Lackey’s range of motion without pain,his ball will not only move more,but he will be so much smoother in his mechanics,with an end result of having much more command of the strike zone…Lets not forget a couple of miles on his fastball..Big picture thinking,,,common sense applying….Beckett’s attitude was the same in 2003,and 2007 when he won….The biggest problem in the organization right now is the guy in charge,Larry Lucchino….He is ultimately responsible for everything,and seeing how he first handedly has been killing this organization,,,a quick departure would be best for everyone….He should be let go just for hiring  a complete non fit in Valentine and singlehandedly destroying the year..

same old story for the Patriots since 2006.  Get in the playoffs as a good offensive team with a average everyday NFL defense,and then the offense doesnt step up and do what they need to and the team goes home. Whats worse is all their money is invested in their offense and thats what kept them from the trophy in 07,09,10,11 and now 12

Tom, your team (you included) just did not want this one as much as the Ravens. Period. Same thing happened last year (with the Giants). Until that changes, your team will always be an also-ran (like it’s been since your last SB win).

The Ravens were damn impressive and were just to physical for the Pats. A physical Defence gives the Pats fits.

Fellow Pats fans… I know this one hurts, but as #75 and #12 reiterated tonight, the Ravens deserved to win this one in the end.  The Patriots certainly were capable of winning tonight, but here are a few thoughts of mine that I thought made the difference in the game:

1. Lack of pass pressure on Flacco throughout most of the game, which allowed Flacco to convert on some key 3rd downs.
2. Aqib Talib injury changed the game plan for the defense, and in the end, the Ravens were able to drive down the field and take advantage of that.
3. Key drops by a few receivers on what could have been game-altering plays.  There was a period early in the first half where the Pats could have stretched their lead.  Granted, that doesn’t guarantee they win in the end still, but it certainly would have helped.
4. Not having Gronk turned out to hurt when they got in the red zone tonight I think.
5. The Ravens have gotten healthy at the right time, and the number of plays they’ve played on defense was probably an over-emphasized story line.
6. People will probably fault Brady and this offense when you look at the numbers… 13 points, 0 in the 2nd half, 1 TD to 2 picks… but he and Flacco were matching each other throw for throw throughout most of this game.  The Ridley fumble really changed the aspect of the game, as it was still a one possession game before that play.  That’s when the game turned, and unfortunately for TB, the stats get skewed at the end a little bit for him.  I can’t fault him really on either of his picks.  He wasn’t accurate on all his throws, but I thought he played a decent game.  It should have been much better if there weren’t some key drops, but the clock mismanagement at the end of the first half has to be partly blamed on him, very uncharacteristic of the Pats and him to make that mistake there.

In the end, just not enough well-executed plays that should have been made, and the Ravens created turnovers.  We’ll be back next year though, but I think they gotta keep improving defensively and manage to stay healthier on offense (relevant: see #5 above).

Keep those chins up, Pats fans. You can still be proud of this team, just wasn’t their year this time.

A lot of the receivers were looking over their shoulder to much afraid to get hit hard. The Ravens physicality played a huge role.

Being a Pats fan just south of Baltimore, it really sucks being down here and will for the next couple of weeks or longer if the Ravens win the SB.  I am stick of hearing about this Spy Gate crap.  Get off of that.  This game was close at Half.  When Talib was injured no one could cover a big WR like Boldin.  That created mismatches…result…2 TDs by Boldin.   Welker had another crucial drop.  The Ridley fumble was unfortuante as well.  Even with all of that, they still had a remote chance.  Welker got a good catch and run.  The next play with the tip for an INT basically sealed the deal.  I love how the media jumps on the bandwagon.  When the Broncos were winning, it was them.  Before that, it was the Texans…and so on.  The Ravens made good plays and we had turnovers, pretty simple.  The Pats need some big tall and strong WRs and some guys in the Secondary.  Let’s see, next year.  I will now cheer for Randy Moss to get a SB Ring as much as it pains me to see C. Cap get one.

It all came down to the injuries. Talib & Gronkowski were both needed to win an amped up Ravens. Ridley got destroyed on that hit for the back breaking turnover. Welker could barley move towards the end of the game.

Agree with a lot of what you said, man.  I think what might get lost in this game is the fact that Talib was put on Boldin, and he was winning that matchup early on.  Him leaving the game was really huge, but in a way, it exposes the fact the Pats do need some more depth on their D.  The Ravens suffered a big injury in the secondary as well, but they have proven to have enough depth there.  Not sure who I’ll be rooting for actually, but it would be cool to see Randy get a ring.

The Pats need true threats on offense, someone with size and speed to catch the ball and a real back, otherwise Brady is alone against a good team.Funny isn’t it how a defense that did not exist at the start of the season is now their future!!!!

Our defense sucks & Mr Hoodie needs to finally realize he can’t coach defense or draft DB’s. bring Romeo back as DC.

injuries are no excuse, the Ravens defense was a shambles this year due to injuries anf they are going to SB. Coach Hoodie can’t develop a championship defense w/o Romeo. Talib is good, but injured in every big game. Today & against Texans!!

Game lost the moment Talib went down (or quit?). Playing a second half without Edelman, Gronkowski, Ridley, Talib, Love, and Woodhead limited was just too much.

 Then there was another HUGE Welker drop (let’s see all the Brady haters blame him for that pass…right on the money).Ravens should give the game ball to Talib.

Offseason needs:

-a no kidding, out and out wide receiver who can burn it on the outside. The Pats wasted Brady’s last few years and will continue to do so without a deep threat, period. Lloyd is not the answer and it’s embarrassing to pull players like Branch back after cutting him every year.
-two good cover corners. Talib is delicate missing too much time. He’s not the answer, neither is Dennard. Arrington and Chung need to go. They just can’t cut it.
-make a decent offer to Welker; if he doesn’t like it, let him walk. Too many drops at inopportune times. His drop tonight (yes, it hit him in the chest) killed a drive and shifted the momentum of the game.
-a pass rusher; Jones is NOT the answer.
-an imaginative offensive coordinator; if McDaniels is the heir appartent to BB, we’re in for another Pete Carroll re-run.
-a legitimate defensive coordinator.
-a competent GM with an equal say in who is drafted.
-be active in free agency!

Patriots dynasty is over, never will Brady and Beichick get another chance. Sad, really.

Those of you calling Talib soft have obviously never played a competitive sport. Hamstrings are tricky things…they can either be stretched or they can’t, but if the player tries to play he usually tears it.

Injuries ARE a factor.The key is when does a team have players out. Ravens got healthy at the RIGHT time at the end of the season.  Patriots injuries came as the season was winding down.  Add to that Talib, Love and Ridley got injured DURING the game tonight when they already had Gronkowski (and Edelman) out. Woodhead was limited. 

The Ravens have gotten healthy at the right time. There is a LOT of luck involved.

Flacco stunk until Talib got hurt. That was a game changer.

Dynasties apply to teams that win championship after championship. Getting to the big game and losing doesn’t constitute a dynasty. The Pats dynasty ended 7 years ago.All things considered I’d rather be a Pats fan than live in Cleveland,KC or Buffalo. but this team needs some serious retooling if they ever want to win another Super Bowl. It may be time to draft a mobile quarterback also.

Talib going down certainly opened things up for Flacco,but that doesn’t excuse the Pats defense from getting gashed on the ground and turning the ball over on offense.

The fumble and tipped ball were just unfortunate. It seems like a lot of Brady’s INTS are tipped at the line of scrimmage. Of course the media will find a way to blame Brady when the recievers dropped some passes. The patriots just can’t put teams away. They played down to their opponent in the first half when they had several chances to build a 2 or 3 score lead in the first half. They will likely keep coming up short until they get a true deep threat reciever and improve their pass rush and secondary. Flacco will also be hyped up when all he did was play well against one of the worst secondaries or maybe th worst in nfl history. Seriously they make bad Qbs look great. Guys like dan orvlosky threw for 350 against them. And Vince young threw for 400 that secondary. They’re a joke. Brady played against a much better secondary and defense, so im tired of hearing that flacco outplayed him.

Ever stop to think they were out coached. After all they were shut out in the second half. That’s called coaching adjustment’s the way I see it.

Patriots just don’t have the playmakers of years past. It’s that simple. Brady doesn’t seem to play well in playoff games against teams with physical defenses. This has become a pattern. It’s that simple. While the Ravens were called for numerous personal fouls, the league fails to institute a system of cummulative personal fouls in one game. Physical play is one thing. Trying to intentionally hurt players is another. That said, the Patriots player a very uninspired game. They deserved the loss.

Patriots kinda remind me of the Yankees. Beat up on poor teams all year, have a few big wins during the regular season but then collapse in the postseason when they have to play all good teams.

In that first half how many times did they have the ball at the 40 or 50 yd line and could not even manage a field goal, it was then I knew they were done.

Need to do something with the secondary in the off season, and get someone who can rush the passer and put some pressure on!….poorly played/coached game,lifelong Pat’s fan but they deserved to lose yesterday.
