Rob Ninkovich: Super Bowl wins don’t affect current roster 01.21.13 at 7:20 pm ET
By

FOXBORO — Rob Ninkovich didn’t mince any words when it came to discussing the Patriots’ legacy of Super Bowl titles and how it affects the current roster.

“That whole era is over with. It’s gone,” said Ninkovich of the team that won Super Bowls XXXVI, XXXVIII and XXXIX. “So this is a whole new team. It’s a different bunch of guys. We all have to experience it and learn for ourselves what it’s like. Getting in the Super Bowl last year and losing left a bad taste in my mouth.

“I would have liked to get back this year, but that wasn’t the way it happened. You take all the lessons in life and learn from them, and put your best foot forward the next year.”

Ninkovich and the Patriots suffered a 28-13 loss to the Ravens in Sunday’s AFC title game at Gillette Stadium. For more Patriots news, check out weei.com/patriots.

  • Tough to repeat

Just ask Kelley. Ask Tarkenton? The new draft and rules keep you from keeping the same team.
Lost Talib defensive lineman lost Ridley. Brady roughed up. No Gronk and zero down field speed and tall receiver. Moss has been the only one they had and if Asante makes the interception history made.

  • LarryfromNewburyport

Someone on SF needs to deck Pollard….That wasn’t a clean hit on Ridley! If it was he wouldn’t have been lying on the ground like he did….Pollard has hit Brady,Gronk,Welker, and now Ridley with intent to hurt them…..How the league allows this to go,I don’t understand!

  • CAPatsFan

The Pollard hit was borderline. Some have even suggested Ridley hit Pollard??? What I saw was Ridley defending himself from Pollard’s helmet. Didn’t Ninkovich get nicked up too?

  • Not the old gang

You ain’t kidding Stinko, you ain’t kidding…. that much is plain to see.

  • LarryfromNewburyport

     Your a JERK!!!!!!!!!!

  • Steve

You take all the lessons in life and learn from them, and put your best foot forward the next year.”……………nice in light of the tragic loss last night at least he still has the sense of humor to make a quick Rex Ryan joke.

  • Keebs

To be honest, I thought Ridley initiated the hit with Pollard. And I’m pretty sure that’s why a penalty wasn’t called.

  • Bsox67

Can you people please stop with the crying about the helmet to helmet stuff with Ridley… It was a punishing hit..There is no way Pollard had time to line up Ridley’s head on that play. The shot Mayo de-cleated Pitta on coulda been called helmet to helmet based on the criteria some of you are using.  We got out played, out toughed and beat. The Raven played better and deserved to win. As much as that kills me to say.

I’ll interested to see what happens in the field of Defensive Coordinator for the Pats..?

Something must change, the CB’s and SS are killing the team.

  • April15

Listen sally. Im all set with grease Boston with crackheads allover maverick. Southie is gods country

  • Zwolf1224

He was following standard presedure by getting pad level through a crowd to protect himself. Pollard illegally went helmet first. Should have never happened if he didn’t go helmet first. The fact that pollard hit Brady, gronk and welker already adds to the sting though…

  • RONYISMELLO

Bottom line, The Pats were out played in every area of the game. Out Coached by far!!!!!!!
Ravens had a plan and used it flawlessly. That’s how it happens when everythlng comes down to one GAME!!!!!!

  • Anonymous

    Ninkovich is correct.

  • Nepatsaz

You said it… OUTCOACHED, OUTCOACHED…particularly Josh McDaniels who never adjusted or changed anything.  he has always been, IMO, the weak link in the coaching staff.  His play calling is no better than high school level.  No wonder Denver and St louis kicked his arse out.  He is lucky that Belichick, for whatever reason, likes him.
Belichick making the young, and inexperienced Matt Patricia the DC was an absolutely stupid move.

  • Ppumpp

It’s tough to follow a team through a difficult season and then have them show up en masse (both sides of the ball) on a milk carton in the game that counted the most.

  • Njpatsfan03

I dont know how many times I need to say this to fellow pats fans before I lose faith. DB’s are fine. They have Zero pass rush. They got to Flacco once which is inexcusable. They register most of their sacks during season when teams are throwing every down to catch up. In close games when they need constant pressure they dont get it. No DB can hold coverage for 5 seconds without getting beat or drawing a flag.

  • bill

But Asante didn’t make it so (not unlike what Nink said) looking back is moot.

  • Anonymous

Your right, that’s why I mentioned the Pats need a new Defense Coordinator. Someone that can put pressure on the QB most of the time. Will see what happens….

  • longtimepatsfan

how about someone from the Pats? i know the issue now is the SB but if any team should neutralize or put this guy out of commission it is the pats.  I would really like to see Pollard “punished.” Hey, it’s all part of the game. Our own Rodney Harrison who was looked upon as a borderline dirty if not brutal safety, had the hurt put on him by the Titans in a game about 6 or 7 years ago. I don’t know the scenario in which it could happen or how, but Pollard is speedy. I’m sick to death of him finishing every game with us without so much as a hangnail…….

  • Moiart

what about the co-ordinators being put on notice !!  If yr guy fumbles the ball in such a crucial game, start deducting from their paychecks.  Weather was not a issue for such sloppy game.  Do they know that Brady is suppose to be protected.  He can’t do it all.

  • Moiart

Defensive co-ordinators, where in the hell are they? our SS and CB are killing us.  We’re better than this.  Kraft start making heads roll.  You screwup and go take up knitting !! getting to much $$$$ to play like kindergarten

  • Moiart

If we played our game the Ravens wouldn’t have a chance.  We made major mistakes and the Ravens took advantage.  We gave them the game, they didn’t have to work too hard.  If we playedour game as we should have and Steve McNair was there it would have been a very interesting game ! I like the Ravens when he was there.

  • Moiart

You are so right!! We need to get cobwebs removed.  We are a great team with a fabulous QB and most of his men are on point, some not so much

  • Moiart

Nick has his point, but don’t forget how the Dynasty began and now there are new guys you can learn from them.  Be proud of what they started and continue with the same fire as they did. Continue greatness, don’t disregard.  Get better. Make yourselves proud and your  previous teammates.

  • RealityCk

Knucklehead.  You don’t make into the playoffs with bad play calling. He may have been out coached in this game.  But you need your head examined when you make stupid sweeping statements that don’t add up.  If it were true they wouldn’t even be in that game Einstein!
