NFL free agency update: Victor Cruz’s agent change not a good sign for Patriots 03.12.13 at 11:19 am ET

Victor Cruz

Any team looking to land Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz would need to surrender a first-round draft pick, as the Giants have said they are placing a first-round tender on him. Plus, the Giants would have the option to match whatever offer Cruz receives from another team.

Combine that with the fact that Cruz recently hired Tom Condon, an agent with whom the Patriots reportedly prefer to avoid, and it appears New England will not make a run at the former UMass star, even if Wes Welker leaves New England.

Cruz had 86 receptions for 1,092 yards and 10 touchdowns last season, his third in the NFL.

Meanwhile, Steelers free agent receiver Mike Wallace, who had been tied to the Dolphins in multiple reports, might have a suitor in the Vikings, who have an opening after they agreed to trade Percy Harvin to the Seahawks. Via Jeff Darlington of NFL Network, the Dolphins believe that Wallace’s price might go as high as $13 million per year.

we don’t want Cruz… we don’t need his “show-boating” TD dance here.  We also don’t like MA people who turn on the state and play for NY teams.  Better off signing some safety like Bernard Pollard to knock Cruz into next week!

  • KRAFTOID

I have a feeling it is going to be another “cost effective” player bonanza for the Pats….yipeee!

  • Pete

Cruz “turned” on the state? So because the Giants gave him an opportunity to play after being undrafted, he should turn that down just because he went to UMass?

Right, let’s hate on the guy for doing the salsa after he scores. It’s not like anyone on the Patriots does a big spike or uses his hands to “make it rain”.

  • Dpertuso

Hey loser !!! Victor Cruz is a class act unlike you !!

  • http://twitter.com/ryanm1405 Ryan Martins

I love how every media member thinks just cause tom condon is his agent a deal is dead like umm hello hes Brandon Lloyds agent to and where did Lloyd end up? on the patriots. if both sides want eachother then a deal WILL happen.

  • Jimmy Freeze

How stupid is the notion that they wouldn’t sign him because his agent is Tom Condon…

Like I’d buy a Yugo over a Porsche because the car salesman told me a lie last time I bought a car.  Every agent is a lying PIA in a negotiation…

I’d buy the Yugo because that’s all I wanted to pay…

If the Pats won’t pay Welker 8M per year…they’re not paying Cruz 10M per year + a 1st round pick

Bill probably had convulsions all last year because he paid Welker the 9M…he has always considered WR a commodity and never has/will pay top dollar for one.  Cripes, Moss broke the NFL record for TDs, and he didn’t pay him top money…good money, but not league max.

  • Pedro

Cruz has too much talent to play for the Pats, let them sign that dink and dunk receiver Wes I drop passes welker

  • 4pm and counting

Nobody has a clue what BB and company will do. SF is loaded and with all the draft picks will be tough to beat if they stay healthly. Family deal as brother now wants him to win SB so the family can raise the trophy. Pats lean on picks and Kraft tight on money even though he is a billionare.

    Wait and see.

  • Chonor0713

It’s going to be the same BS from the Pats this FA period.  They will wait until the end pull a few guys off the scrap heap say they were a great “VALUE” as they always do.  The Pats will be good again this year as always but will fall short at the end again.  They refuse to break from there so called VALUE philosophy.  Brady has maybe 2 competitive seasons left time to open up the bank account put the past ways aside and get the superstars we need to win 1 or 2 more super bowls with Brady.

That’s alright. It’s more important to bring back Talib, and sure up this secondary. If we can have Ed Reed and/or Revis. That would be better than any receiver. It’s all about defense.

  • Daysofthenew

Look, it is what it is, ok.

there’s no room for giants fan’s here

  • JasonV27

Honestly I’d take Victor Cruz with Brady any day of the week

  • Stat Man

Pats would be wise to take a long hard look at Pollard. If he is Patriot at least he won’t be taking people out via injury. And they need a safety who can hit for a change.

  • Mensa8

Explain to me how it’s all about defense. The Pats lost to the Giants twice because they could only score 14 and 17 points respectively. Then against the Raven they only scored 13 points. This from an offense that scores nearly 35 points a game in the regular season. Can’t blame the defense for any of this. This is due to not having any outside the numbers guys or deep threats to stretch the field against quality defenses which is what you should expect in the post season. Wise up and don’t be a bunny, the Pats have been built to win in the regular season and not the post season, big miscalculation by Pats. The defense stood up or at least played well enough to win if the offense had showed up. If the OFFENSE had shown up. Pats NEED wideouts, defensive improvement would be nice.
