Report: Pats will host WR Donald Jones on a visit 03.14.13 at 9:20 am ET
By

The Patriots will host wide receiver Donald Jones on a visit Thursday, according to Tim Graham of the Buffalo News. The 6-foot, 208-pound Jones is a Youngstown State product who spent three seasons in the league, all with the Bills, and has 82 career receptions. His best year came in 2012 when he caught 41 passes for 443 yards and four touchdowns. He was also on the receiving end of one of the biggest hits of the 2012 season for New England, courtesy of Patriots defensive lineman Vince Wilfork.

That hit aside, Jones has pretty good career numbers against New England: in five games against the Patriots, he has 35 catches for 319 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

  • Brady’s money

    Yawn!

“That hit aside, Jones has pretty good career numbers against New England: in five games against the Patriots, he has 35 catches for 319 yards and a pair of touchdowns”   Duh ! ! ! ! he’s playing against the Patriots defense ! ! ! everbody has good numbers against them.

  • MIKEJONES

    MIKEJOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONES

  • Schwank

Smells like a cheaper alternative to Lloyd.  Decent player.

  • Schwank

As an aside the Dolphins have tied up alot of money in Wallace and Hartline.  Both good ….but are they better?  Maybe.  The coach was the OC at Green Bay where they did value the WR position (unlike the Pats).  Jury is out.  Also, I like the Dolphins defense better than the Pats.

  • Habs dive squad

    Well then….Wes who?

  • Kenkarken

Yes! Against New England, that’s the point! You could have those numbers against that secondary.

  • bubbaspeaks

No a BETTER option than Lloyd. Lloyd doesn’t stretch the field which is what you need. Plus Lloyd goes down the second he catches the ball no attempt to gain yards after catch unless he wide open and unning free to begin with.

  • bubbaspeaks

BTW, I would rather have Darrius Hey-Bey than Jones.
And don’t say he was a bust cause it’s not his fault Davis reached from him as top 10 overall player when he should gone mid 2nd round.
If he had and gone to a team that didn’t from day 1 want him to replace a future hall of famer (Moss) it might been different.
Last year he was solid guy but Raiders offense was pretty bad as a whole.

  • Mardakin

I like mansfield high”s defense better than the pats!

  • Sdfasd

Jones’ YPC last year was 10.8

That’s one of the lowest you’ll ever see.

But yeah he really stretches the field, you moron.

  • Sdfasd

Llloyd had 74 catches last year. Jones has 82 IN HIS CAREER. But this moron is ready to brand Jones a better player.

  • bubbaspeaks

You are the MORON. U don’t understand stats. If Gronk catches 2 passes for TDs, one at 10 and other at 5, his YAC is under 8. By your use of stats he was pretty much useless for day.

. You think stats defines a player alone.
Good find the CB with fastest 40 and plug him in your defense…oh wait tried that and didn’t work!!

  • bubbaspeaks

Another idiot. So with your logic. Welker had 29 catches his first three years is a sucky offense in  Miami. Good thing yoyu didn’t make the decision on that deal!
Boy you guys r better off redsox fans: Stick with same guys no matter if they are old and getting don’t  discover and let young talent emerge.

  • ScoopBurton

The Pat’s are obviously bringing in the creme de la creme of free agents.

  • Bruinman86

Depth move.  Throw a bunch of stuff at the wall and see what sticks.

  • Brian

Lloyd had more plays for 25+ yards in the three years before joining the Patriots than any receiver in the NFL.  Either he completely fell apart before joining the Patriots, or Tom Brady can’t/won’t throw the deep ball and felt more comfortable checking down on short high percentage balls to Welker.

  • Brian

You sound ignorant and abrasive for no reason.

  • Greg

    pass

  • Snoops

Mike Jones!!!!!! WOW, BLOCKBUSTER. Signing him will certainly make the Pats SB contenders once again! And I’m sure season ticket holder’s will all rejoice and re-up by the end of the month!

So…. who exactly is Mike Jones???

  • Logic

comments like this are getting old fast. just because you don’t know a player because ESPN doesn’t do segments on him, doesn’t mean he’s a crappy player.

go back to jerking your sorrows away.

  • Logic

again, because you know nothing besides the ‘star’ players ESPN tells you to know, doesn’t mean the guy can’t play.

I happen to think Jones would be serviceable in the endzone with his height and Brady throwing him balls instead of Fitzy..

  • Jlonardo724

We need a big WR that can play outside the numbers. If the price is right he would make a great second option out there

  • Jlonardo724

Lloyd was half this guys size. I liked him but he was too small to play outside the numbers

  • TCP

Wrong Bill to go after.  David Nelson is a better choice…6’5″, more athletic, young, and will cost minimal money after knee injury in 2012.

  • Anonymous

Injuries have cost the Patriots much to say the least. Brady’s next 4 years will not be the same ole guys that never won a ring. Pats must create a new system, because the old system is not working to get a Super Bowl win. Time has come to make changes, and we don’t see the Pats blue print, but we can be assured “they are winners”. Sit back and see your new team form.

  • TPD

Just love the fact the Patriots are once again ignoring their needs in free agency.  It’s borderline insane.  To continue with the same approach and expecting a different outcome ie signing guy’s to play offense.  Just continue to ignore the elephant in the room.  It is so frustrating year after year to sit watch inept defense operate.  Just solve the problem and get some pass rushers and secondary personnel.  The Patriot’s Super bowl championships were won with the great defense and a decent running and passing game.  To veer away from that success is mind boggling.

  • Innovator

NO NO NO NO NO!!!! NO DONALD JONES!!!

  • Snoops

It’s “mind bottling” as Davey Pageviews states.

  • Animalsbrother

Almost everyone has good numbers against the pats defense

  • San Diego Dreamer

Bring back Stallworth. Don’t sign this smuck. Can’t we get a tall,  physical wide receiver like we know we need.

  • BubbaSPeaks

Right cause TALL is the answer…Stop just watchin ESPN highlights and living in past!
Jones and Emanuel Sanders with Amendola + two TEs is group of young talent now to grow into.

    The PATs need DEFENSE. DEFENSE!!

  • Rightallthetime

I love the idiots here who only think a guy can be good if he was good elsewhere and they should be paid 10M a year. IDIOTS, you can’t build a roster worth a darn like that. Hopefully this guy will excel here LIKE WELKER, who was no-name chump in Miami !!!! And we gave up 2 draft picks for, which at the time seemed RIDICULOUS !!
