Bill Belichick: Nothing to add on Wes Welker situation 03.19.13 at 12:20 pm ET
By

Bill Belichick

Bill Belichick sidestepped any questions regarding the Wes Welker situation on Tuesday, saying that “there are changes every year on every team,” and adding that he agreed with what owner Robert Kraft said Monday regarding the negotiation.

Speaking at the AFC coaches breakfast at the annual NFL meetings, Belichick was asked if it was a tough negotiation regarding Welker. He said: “I think Wes was everything we hoped we would be when we traded for him. He was tough, competitive and very productive. I think what Robert said [Monday] covered it pretty thoroughly. I don’t have anything to add to that.

“I agree with what Robert said [Monday]. I thought he did a good job explaining the situation. I don’t have anything to add to it. It’s been covered, very thoroughly.”

yada, yada, yada…….will the so-called sports writers let this NON STORY go away…….yea he caught a ton of passes, but it’s the one’s he’s dropped that counts!

Not an issue–Pats bungled it…Low ball non negotiable offer….and the greatest part was that they got Brady to renegotiate his deal like he was some mediocre QB…What are they going to do in week 4 when Amendola and Hernandez are hurt?

The big bad Bill act is getting old!

  • Belichick = Bobby V

In a lot of ways, Bill Belichick is disturbingly similar to Bobby V.

Both are highly regarded as “geniuses” within certain circles, even though they had largely failed in previous organizations before coming to New England (the Browns and the Mets). Both are very arrogant, patronizing, yet are brilliant on-field tacticians, sometimes even swapping a player out on 4th and goal (or in the middle of an at-bat) if they think they have a trick play that can win the game.

Both are also not afraid to make an example out of certain players, even at the detriment of their own team (sitting Wes Welker during a playoff game, making Kevin Youkilis a “healthy scratch” in April).

Both are also not afraid to draw a hard line in the sand and give even their best players a “take it or leave it” approach in the offseason. Both have driven Wes Welker and Kevin Youkilis to sign with hated rivals.

The only real difference? Belichick entered the right organization at the right time and carved out a legacy for himself. Bobby V was called upon to help unite a divided Red Sox team but instead was exposed as a clubhouse cancer and rightfully fired after 1 season.

I would like to add that it’s DONE! MOVE ON!

  • Bruinman86

Howso? They keep winning and are contenders every year. Do you think replacing him will make it even better? Good luck with that. We all know what a challenge it is to find the right fit for a team.

Welker was offered more last year and passed
He was offered more this year and passed
His contract is back-loaded , and he may be waived next year before the bonus kicks in , just like LLoyd this year

  • Schwank

No they are different….with BV it’s all about him with BB it’s just the game all the other stuff he doesn’t acknowledge. They are very different.

  • stevem2424

WOW as usually he could care less about the fans it all about him
If he was not he best coach I could really hate this guy

  • cfn

OK, so you bring up some points but BB is not an idiot loud mouth like Bobby V. Bobby V makes a fool out of himself, and BB rarely does that. BB is a much better coach. And he really is not that arogant. Don’t know why you try to compare the two. i am not a BB lover, but his personality is night and day from Bobby V who is obnoxios.

I wonder if that way in death O well get over it and move on

Do you really Spies on gays? lol

I actually think they did not bungle it. Amendola is probably a better fit for this franchise as TB wants to play to he is 40. It actually was time to move on from giving Wes 100 plus catches a season and start to spread the ball around. WW made a lot of clutch plays for third downs, but also dropped things in the clutch. Amendola will be just as productive with Brady throwing to him for he is just as talented. Any player can get hurt at anytime and maybe some players are more suseptible. We will see about Amendola

  • psycho1039

why do people say he doesn’t care about the fans…he does whatever it takes to put a superbowl contender on the field every year

  • Moses Scurry

I find your lack of faith disturbing.

  • fab4ever

Few similarities…very, very few….Bill would prefer to not be on camera or on audio whereas Bobby V is all about getting face time…BB is smart enough to do things in a quiet manner while BV wants everything known to anyone within ear shot…..nope, they are inherently different….

  • fab4ever

Speaking of which, our pal “Spygate” has either gone rogue, gone underground or just finally got a brain and realized he was in way over his head…as he would say “let’s move on”….

  • Bubba

The one thing that really irks me is all the comments that say something like “too much of the offense went through Welker. Now that he’s gone TB can spread the ball around.” This reasoning (or lack of) is hilarious. I guess the Miami Heat would be better off without LeBron too – after all, too much of the offense goes through him. Anyone ever think that Welker maybe got the ball so much because he was the best option most of the time?? No team improves when they lose a HOF-caliber player.

  • icebe23

Who compares basketball to football in any scenario? Its apples to oranges, basketball depends on one superstar per team more than any other sport…fact is the offense got predictable..ie too many men in the middle of the field. DA can cross between the slot and outside to give defenses different looks. watch the 14 point playoff performance for your proof.

Two words for you, dummy: Rajon Rondo.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1247940578 Tony T. Tony

You don’t know what you’re talking about. But, hey!! If that “works” for you.. whatever. Amendola’s #s are better than Wes’ w/ Miami. He’s younger, bigger AND faster. And he dropped HALF the % of passes as Wes. And I’m sure as you are some freakin super human, you could just amazingly ward off a broken arm, broken collar bone, and a ripped muscle. Wake up, you ignoramus.

Obviously.. it is anything but. He got us to another title game, even plagued with injuries at the most crucial spots. Silly fool.

I’m sure some trolls will come along and blame the economy on Bill Belichick.

  • WHO CARES

KRAFT WILL NEVER ADMIT THAT HE WAS WRONG, HE LET HIS EGO GET IN THE WAY.THE PATS OFFENSE TOOK A BIG STEP BACKWARDS.

  • http://twitter.com/MAMISS65 mike missle

C’mon–Amendola has played 16 games…We” ll see how tough he is.. Welker had 72 first downs out of 118…

You are totally right, but switching up ID’s every 3 months is just another troll move…
