Report: Tim Tebow set to sign with Patriots

06.10.13 at 5:20 pm ET

The Patriots are set to sign quarterback Tim Tebow, and expect him to be present when minicamp opens on Tuesday, according to Ed Werder of ESPN.

The former Heisman Trophy winner, who has played for both the Broncos and Jets over the course of his professional career, was cut this spring after one season in New York. The 6-foot-3, 236-pounder has played in 35 games over the course of his NFL career, and has gone 173-for-361 for 2,422 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Tebow, who was interviewed by the Patriots as part of the pre-draft process when he was coming out of Florida in 2010, does have some experience with offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, as McDaniels was the head coach of the Broncos when Tebow was drafted by Denver that spring. He should also be helped by the fact that he will be joining a team chock full of former Florida players, including linebacker Brandon Spikes and tight end Aaron Hernandez.

To apparently make room on the roster, the Patriots have released quarterback Mike Kafka.
