LSU QB rips Tim Tebow’s mechanics

07.18.13 at 12:29 pm ET

LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger took a shot at current Patriots backup quarterback Tim Tebow on Thursday, ripping Tebow’s mechanics.

Mettenberger, who spent the offseason working with former NFL assistant and current LSU offensive coordinator Cam Cameron, has struggled at times — he finished 70th in the country last year in passing efficiency and 73rd in completion percentage. (Last season, he threw for 2,609 yards and 12 touchdowns on 207-of-352 passing.)

But he said he’s not as bad as Tebow.

“It’s not like I’m Tim Tebow and have terrible mechanics,” Mettenberger told reporters.

Tebow was acquired last month by New England. In three years in the NFL, he has completed 47.9 percent of his passes, throwing for 2,422 yards, 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
