FOXBOROUGH — The Patriots have beaten the Jets the last eight times the two teams have played at the Meadowlands, and New York free safety Kerry Rhodes has had enough of it. Rhodes told the New York Daily News that he wants to “embarrass” New England when the two teams meet this Sunday in New Jersey.

“Not just go out there and try to win, try to embarrass them,” Rhodes said. “Try to make them feel bad when they leave here. We don’t want to just beat them. We want to send a message to them, ‘We’re not backing down from you and we expect to win this game, and it’s not going to be luck, it’s not going to be a mistake.’”
Rhodes also took note of the fact that quarterback Tom Brady was hit six times in the season-opener Monday night against the Bills.
“We will hit him more than six times. I promise you that,” Rhodes said, according to the Daily News.
“Any quarterback can be rattled,” Rhodes told the Daily News. “[Brady’s] one of the best, don’t get me wrong. That’s evident. Any quarterback, Peyton Manning, even if you get in his face, if you rattle the quarterback, you get pressure on the quarterback, any quarterback it is, he’s not going to be the same. Nobody. That’s not to say he’s not going to come back and make a play after.”
Other Jets players have made similar chest-thumping statements this week — defensive tackle Kris Jenkins said New York is treating this game “like it’s the Super Bowl.”
For the most part, the Patriots have shrugged off any tough talk. Former New England safety Rodney Harrison issued a statement on his Twitter page Thursday afternoon explaining why.
“The Patriots won’t go into a war of words with any team, they hear everything and then use it to play better on Sunday,” wrote Harrison.
“It’s one of those weeks where I can’t wait for the game to get started,” said running back Laurence Maroney. “You hear a lot of talking. We just do our talking on he field.”
“Well, I think we follow the lead of our head coach,” said Brady. “I think because we feel a certain way, we don’t necessarily need to tell everybody about it. I mean, we’re confident. We have as much confidence as most teams in the league. We expect to go out there and play well every time we take the field.
“To go out there and make a bunch of predictions and ‘We’re going to do this’ and ‘We’re going to do that’ and ‘This is how we’re going to be,’ it really doesn’t mean much. I think we’ve just always felt that if we do our work and we prepare and we go out there and play to our ability, the outcome will be what we’re hoping for.”
